We have just got back from two nights at Hotel Erina and ok, it was a little shabby, but for the price and location it was worth it for us. We didn't want to spend too much but we also didn't want to share a bathroom and most of the really cheap places had shared bathrooms. Our room had a small bathroom, it was a bit tatty and could do with replacing but it still served its purpose. The toilet's flush button didn't work and then I realised that the strange brass knob sticking out of the wooden panel on top of the toilet was for flushing it - they had improvised instead of replacing the cistern!
Our bedroom was ok, could have done with a lick of paint and better pillows (mine was just a pillow case with stuff inside it that looked as if might have been stuffing from an old sofa or something similar rather than a proper pillow - will upload the pic if I remember), but the rest of the bedding was ok, sheets and towels clean and the room itself was clean. We had a flatscreen tv with a sky box although we only had a quick look at BBC News 24 - I'm not sure what other channels were available.
All of the staff that we dealt with were polite and friendly.
The first night we slept with the window shut and all of the noise from outside was blocked out - it was the noise from the other guests that woke me up. The second night we slept with the window open and it was quite noisy outside. There was air conditioning in our room but we didn't see a controller for it (but never asked about it either - it was quite hot but still bearable sleeping without the aircon on).
The hotel is on the third floor of the building but the reception is on the second floor and acts as a reception for the second floor hotel (Hotel Stella Mary) as well. So instead of going to the third floor and waiting around looking for a receptionist, just go straight to the second floor.
Free wi-fi and just a few minutes walk from the train station, as well as having a cash machine 1 minute away and plenty of places to eat nearby, it was perfect for us on a budget. I would go there again.
