“Central location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014

Very convenient location to travel through Tuscany and any where in Italy. The station is quite big and nice. The ticket both staff is no good with English language and won't be much help but there are machines across the station and has English language option and is very easy to use. I planned all my trips through those machines. The only thing to remember would be have the Italian names of all the stations you are travelling, even under the English version the names of the stations are in Italian.

There are two coffee shop at the station and there are some friendly staff sitting in the booth in the middle of the station to guide you where you want to go. Just show them the ticket and they will move you in the right direction. There is a quite good big shopping center underground linked to the station so do check it out.

As soon as you are ready to board make sure to please validate your tickets as they do check once you are on board the train. You can leave your luggage at the station for a few Euro if you have to check out.

Safe travel!!!

“Convenient station”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 23, 2013

We arrived from Rome Termini station for a day in Florence, this stationis very central to popular sites such as the Duomo, Accademia and Uffizi gallery. All within walking distance. I suggest to give yourself 30 min to an hour to make sure that you can get to your scheduled entry without stressing out. We took a taxi to Accademia but ended up walking back to SMN station. The hop on hop off bus leaves from this station if you wish to take one of those tours. We opted not to do this but instead see the original David and visit the Uffizi. The only thing is that their display on which track the train will be is a little delayed and confusing, you have to pay to use their bathroom,, and since it's open air, soooooo cold, bundle up and wear warm clothing. And as always be alert for suspicious characters and keep your belongings close

“Busy and be Wary of stranger!”

Was at this station for my trip to Pisa and my departure to Venice. Please be extra careful and be mindful at all times. Somebody may just approach you and offer help especially near the automated ticket machine. Just ignore their persistent. Learn to ignore them. Stay focus on what you are doing. Keep a close watch on your luggages, wallet and pouches. There are many people who are not departing but are just there. You know!!!!

“Italian”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2013 via mobile

The Santa Maria Novella Station of Florence is the main city station and should be more reviewed for the numerous people that pass it,every day.
A big plus is the fact that is right in the heart of Florence in walkable distance from almost all attractions.
It is well connected to the 2 main Tuscany airports-Florence and Pisa with direct (regional) trains. It is also well connected with other beauties of Tuscany(Arezzo,Siena,Prato,Viareggio,Cortona, etc) with (regional) trains. It is well connected with big Italian cities through rapid, fast trains.
Be careful:The trains are announced on platforms on the main screens only 30 minutes in advance,to be sure in time you have to walk at each platform where they have screens with artivals/departures of that platform within 1 hour.A BIG minus is the size(small) of all this screens!I would suggest to the authorities of Trenitalia to put BIG screens since it always seemed to me that people were confused and struggled to read(especially the tourists and the elder).
The station has 3 large entries/exits well positioned.
It has cafes but it really lacks in a self service restaurant(big,as the one in Rome-Termini),or even some form of serving the excellent Italian cuisine, instead of the panino/sanwich bistro they have by the 1-2 platforms.
Alltogether a medium sized station, difficult to get lost, safe and quite clean(for Italian standards).
