My only complaint is the hike up to your room. We had seven flights of stairs.. and I was not prepared. Next time, I will remember to wear a backpack and not carry luggage.

The room served it's purpose. The terrace was a great place to relax and take in the ambiance of the city.

The breakfast was very good. A good variety of items.

The staff person was very helpful with tours and sites of the area.

We were in Italy for Thanksgiving 2012. We stayed in Venice, Florence and Rome. This was the best place we stayed at by far. Super clean. FAST and FREE wireless Internet!! Yeah, I know. Leave the work at home but it was great because I was able to upload our photos to DropBox for safety while in Florence. Internet sucked in Venice and Rome. Anyway, one of the best places I have ever stayed in. Anywhere. Only complaint is the 77 stairs to our room and no lift! But that's ok. Needed to walk off those American hamburgers anyway. Lol.

STAY HERE!!!

We really enjoyed this beautiful little bed and breakfast in Florence. The rooms were spacious and comfortable; the bathroom had a normal size shower (not a tiny box); and the terrace on top of the building was perfect for sitting and enjoying the ambiance of the city.

A few caveats. First, the B&B is on the third floor of the building (fourth floor for Americans) and its quite a hike with your bags. Not impossible, just be prepared. Second, the building is in the heart of the city and thus there are typical city noises. If you're sensitive, then bring ear plugs. Also, the walls are a tad thin, so the ear plugs are helpful there too.

The included breakfast was simple but yummy. Toast, pastries, cereal, and yogurt, fruit, tea, and coffee. This might seem underwhelming after the continental breakfasts in the US, but for Europe it was lovely and refreshing.

The two women who run the place were helpful and friendly; they were quick with tips about museums, sights, and places to eat. They know their town and they love it.

But I feel to fairness, that average is the only option if using tripadvisor criteria. It isn't much of a complaint rather, I hope you guys at Il Bargello will see it as a genuine suggestion to problem solving, but......have u guys read your customers' comments about the noise coming from the street???? There are a few, and I add mine. It's like having the passer by right at the feet of your bed.....isn't it time to install double glazing????
The room (Raffaello) was fine, well kept and tastefully decorated we found it to be very nice, if only we had a tv it would have made a difference and a few extra plugs would also help.
Rather than that you guys are doing great. Your position is fab, your hosting is professional, we found the atmosphere you created very homey and comfortable.....your terrace is a surprising plus......the stairs to your lovely little B&B???Well.....thanks God we are good and fit and we didn't mind, but if we weren't???
How about making a good note about it at time of booking, or at least have a strong and healthy someone to help (at least the less able) with luggage on arrival???

In any case, thank you guys for your hospitality. We had a great time in Florence and Il Bargello will always be part of our memory.

With kindest Regards,
Mcccld73

Dear Mcccld73,

Thank you for your review. Your experience is always important to us as is your thoughts about our B&B.

We are so very happy that you have good memories of your stay here and hope that you come back again. We really enjoy having people return again and again - gives us as sense that good friends and family are visiting us.

The terrace is our point of pride here for all kinds of reasons. It is a little Shangri-la where you can take a break form the bustle of the city.

We would like to address your concerns for you and other readers of Tripadvisor so if a bit wordy we apologize in advance.

We do understand about the noise on the street front and know excuses are like water...but noise in an old historical city such as Florence is hard to control. The sound from the streets bounces off the stucco walls and sounds like you are living the street scene with the merry band of revelers. The city ordinances for aesthetics, so you can always enjoy the beautiful Renaissance Architecture of Florence fame, make it very difficult to gain building permits to change the windows as they must all conform to historical standards. We have tried to use the thickest glass possible for the old window frames to help keep the noise at bay and are looking into other methods to reduce the sound coming through the walls/glass. We apologize for any inconvenience and are completely sympathetic to light sleepers. We live in the center too.

As for the TVs...this has been very well thought out. We are simply a B&B not a hotel. We feel that guests are here to enjoy our beautiful city and all it has to offer. We have a nice flatscreen TV which is digitally connected in the living area for all to use and enjoy. We have found over the past couple of years that most folks travel with an iPad or other computer device and use our free and fast WiFi service, available in all rooms, to watch news, movies and browse the Internet while having some down time in the evening. We try to create a family-style atmosphere at the B&B and gathering in the living room to chat, watch TV or read is just part of what makes Il Bargello feel a little like home.

Ahh the stairs - whew!!! We climb them every day and understand they can seem daunting to some, but most do not mind after the luggage is put away. We try to advise everyone when requesting a booking or when confirming a booking on the Internet about the stairs, "Our cosy, completely NON-smoking home was entirely renovated in 2004. It is situated on the 3rd floor of a 15th century building that has no elevator service." We want to make sure anyone with physical limitations understands where we are situated. If someone is unable to carry their luggage all they need do is ask or request help when booking. If possible, and he is home, Gabriella's husband Massi helps guests bring up their suitcases. Other times it is either one of us gals who helps out if someone needs a hand. We are a B&B and porters usually do not come with this type of accommodation - it is the all hands on deck method - like at home - that applies here.

Again, we are so grateful for your feedback and want to extend our thanks. We hope to see you again soon!

We loved staying at Il Bargello B&B! We were able to walk from the train station easily enough and had no problem finding it. It is centrally located and within walking distance of all the best sights in Florence. Lynn and Gabriella were extremely helpful (I can't emphasize this enough) and were most willing to share their knowledge and recommendations. Lynn pointed us in the direction of the market as soon as we arrived and made dinner reservations for us. Gabriella was a life-saver when we needed to make last-minute reservations for accommodations in Siena. If you don't like stairs, this may not be the place for you, but we looked at it as taking the place of a mini-workout on the stairmaster every day! Lynn and Gabriella also highly recommended the 3-day Florence Pass - we bought them and are glad we did. It saves time not having to stand in line and allows use of public transportation. If you can, take the bus to Fiesole for the afternoon. Wonderful views and Roman ruins await you at this hillside town about 1/2 hour outside of Florence. Another great asset of Il Bargello is the rooftop terrace. We took our lunch there to relax for a mid-day break almost every day and enjoyed a bottle of wine every evening while taking in the evening lights and spectacular views from the top of the B&B. I would return to Il Bargello in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: Choose a room with bathroom en suite if it matters to you.

Gabriella and Lynn were the perfect hosts, made us feel welcome and were a wealth of information. The terrace was a fabulous place to enjoy a little wine and the company of fellow travelers. The use of the kitchen facilities in the evening was a nice extra. WiFi was great. The only downside was that the room was very small with just a bed and a small table in the room. We could have used a chair. We think we may have just ended up in the smallest of their 5 or 6 rooms. The Il Bargello is in a great location, an easy walk to most everything. We loved our stay.

Great location, so close to everything in the middle of Florence! Really nice place to stay, awesome rooftop and lounge area so you don't have to just hang out in your room when you're at the hotel. Wifi access was great. Lynn and Gabriella were very helpful during our stay, arranging museum and dinner reservations.
