“You should stay here”
Reviewed January 9, 2011

My wife and i stayed here as we enjoyed Christmas in Florence and absolutely loved it. The location was close to the attractions (15 min walk at a leisurely pace to "the dome" plaza), it was very clean and welcoming, and the staff (mariella) was incredible. It felt like we were staying at a friends house for the weekend.

This is a very clean and tidy B&B wih the basic amenties you need for a trip. We were disappointed with the location, it is about 10-15 min walk to the main train station and then another 10 mins or so into the heart of Florence. At night we got cabs back and forth as it was quite a dark part of time. Otherwise the lady who runs the B&B is delightful and it was good value for money.

We had a really nice time staying at Antica Posta during our visit to Florence. The B&B is very beautifully decorated and has all the amenities for a comfortable stay. Unlike other B&Bs we experienced in Italy, it was also very well managed. Mariela was extremely friendly and helpful with lots of great suggestions and information. The B&B is a 10 minute walk from the train station. We would certainly stay here again if we visit Florence again!

We enjoyed our stay at Antica Posta B&B. The staff were always available to us, very friendly, and very helpful. The B&B was clean, comfortable, and quiet despite being located on a busy street. They gave us a great map of the city and helped to coordinate a day tour into Tuscany. We definitely would stay here again!

The service of this B&B was excellent. Very friendly staff checked us in and showed us our rooms quickly. Afterward she gave us a local map and provided traveling tips for the local area. Rooms were larger than typical B&B's and very clean. Both of our rooms had private bathrooms and traffic noise was at a minimum. Staff brought breakfast to your room when you were ready for it. B&B was located about 15 minutes walk from the train station so plan for a little bit of a walk. The best part was the size and cleanliness of the rooms, the only down side was the walk from the train station. I will definitely return to this B&B if we return to Florence.

I'll go straight to the point by saying that the location of this B&B was not that convenient for my liking.

Yes, it is not that far from the train station, but it is rather confusing to know which bus to take and where to get off. From the bus stop at the train station, Bus 14 goes to Antica Posta, but BEWARE, there are two types of Bus 14s called 14CB and 14A. If you are in town and want to get back to the B&B and you happen to take Bus 14CB, you'll be given an unwanted tour around the outskirts of Florence before it loops back to the terminal near the train station and goes no where close to where you are supposed to get off! This is the confusing part for first-time tourists! Bottom line: avoid Bus 14CB if you ever want to get back to your lodge. Bus 14A is the one you are supposed to get on, but how were we supposed to know? The B&B could've been more specific about this. Bus 23 also gets you home but it stops in a different area and you'll have to cross a major obstacle (the main road with Smart cars driving at a hundred miles per hour!). This is no exaggeration!

Another inconvenient aspect about this location is that there are very few restaurants around where one can go and grab a bite to eat. The closest place with many restaurants is near the train station (which of course, you'll find it rather hard to digest the food on the way back due to the confusion of the aforementioned bus system.)

Despite this inconvenience, I still find numerous good points about this B&B. The room is clean and the corridor in front contains many brochures about tourist activities in Florence and greater Florence. The staff, Matteo, is very friendly, kind and helpful. He even took the time to contact us to ensure when we will be arriving to the place. He also helped book a bike tour around Tuscany for us.

Breakfast is served one-day before you are supposed to eat it. The croissant not warmed (as it comes in a sealed plastic bag). You have to make your own coffee and tea. I don't mind doing this, but compared to other B&Bs that I have stayed, the breakfast can be much improved.

Overall, if you don't mind the confusion of traveling to and from this location, then by all means, Antica Posta is not a bad choice at all!
