I found Hotel Elite quite by chance on the Internet, as I searched for places to stay when in Florence. My trip was both business and pleasure, as I planned to take in a small portion of a computing conference before moving to more cultural activities. I was travelling alone, so a safe city centre location was a must.

The hotel is located about 5 minutes walk from the main Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station, which is one hour of a train ride from Pisa airport. Like many smaller hotels, it's situated in a mixed use building, with a shop on the ground floor and private apartments on the upper floor. If you arrive after 4pm you will check in in the sister hotel on the adjoining piazza - it's less than two minutes walk but it may be a good idea to check it on a map first if coming by train to avoid having to retrace your steps!

I booked a single room, but a very nice double was assigned, which included a shower, sink, TV and a proper air conditioner (not the chilled water junk seen so often in many US and Irish hotels). The toilet was shared amongst a number of rooms. The room was spotlessly clean and well made up each day. The hotel was quiet at night and I got a great nights sleep. The wifi works best downstairs in the lobby, perfectly understandable as the building walls in Europe tend to be quite thick.

The hotel manager was very helpful when I asked to extend my stay by three more nights, and was a pleasure to chat to, with plenty of recommendations for places to visit and restaurants to eat at. I'm delighted to have found this hotel and will be using it again when I visit florence next time.

The location is great, right in the center, 10 minutes to walk to the dome.

Nadia - the hotel keeper is very friendly and helpful with tip to visit Florence and other cities in Italy! Upon her suggestion we visited Luca and it was just awesome.

Suggested - Spend less time in Pisa and her for Luca instead.

Internet connection is very good in the rooms.

The hotel is about 500 meters from the train station in Florence and 200 m from the tourist information. The house from the 1400s is "gently renovated". Next door to an outstanding beautifully decorated pharmacy /perfumery from the 1200s (opened for public sale in 1612). We thank Nadja at the reception for her great tips: Buy picnic food in the market hall, then take bus No. 12 (€ 1:20, instead of the Hop on-hop off bus for € 25) and go around the city to the famous viewpoint Piazzale Michelangelo. In the town center there are mostly pedestrian zones, so buses can not come close to the sights. Nadja also recommended a typical Italian restaurant without the feeling "tourist trap" with sloppy made food and high prices (Trattoria Za-Za). Instead, visit Ostaria / Ristorante Centopoveri on Via Porcellana 41. We were completely satisfied :-)

We stayed at both the Elite and Desiree hotels due to nights that weren't open online. In short, we created a real challenge for them with a late night arrival, 1 night in Elite followed by a night in the Desiree and finally back to the Elite. They were VERY VERY helpful through all of this. We really couldn't ask for a more professional group of staff members. VERY honest and upfront about everything!

Yes, you are getting a low price property. But, they are GREAT people to work with.

There were mosquitos everywhere. We killed at least 10. The shower doesnt have a floor and the curtain touches the toilet so after the shower everything is soaked. Also, the floor started to flood after about 5-10 minutes so I had to start turning the water on and off to drain. The walls and bed spread were very very gross. The only good part was location.
