This was our first stop on our first "couples romance" getaway. We then stayed in Splendide in Lugano and Tremezzo in Lake Como, just to give you a backround for my comparison.
This is a wonderful hotel made up of six rooms and lovely staff who are clearly dedicated to ensuring that you have a wonderful stay in Florence. Superb value for money as obvious attention to detail was given to every room, with massive marble bathrooms and power showers, free wifi (very rare in Italy) and a delicious breakfast.
However, here are some things that are not stated on their website that you should keep in mind:
*It is a SOLID 15-20 minute walk to the city "center", i.e. Duomo or the Ponte Vecchio, this might not be the best choice of hotel if you are travelling with small children. Please remember you cannot drive into the center.
*If you want to see the Accademia or the Uffizi Galleries you MUST tell the hotel staff, before your arrival in Florence and they will sort out the tickets for you. This was not made clear to us and if you are travelling from far and want to get the most from your trip you don't want to find out, once you've arrived, that it's "the one day of the year where museums are free", "you can't book tickets" or "there will be no lines etc." (There were lines, you could book tickets and they were only free after 7pm)
*This is a B&B, not a full service hotel.
Over all however, this is a charming, little hotel that won't break the bank and lets you have some of that Florentine magic!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- This family-run yet luxurious B&B is located in one of the city's most charming neighborhoods, and only 15 minutes walking distance from the old town. With only six rooms, it is not just a bed and breakfast, but a little piece of paradise from where to discover the most authentic Florence. Villa Antea is the ideal choice for a romantic and quiet stay slightly outside the hustle of the city's everyday life. Each room is nicely decorated with satin fabrics and antique furniture. The bathrooms are large, entirely decorated with Carrara marble. A perfect atmosphere to relax before and after a walk in the city. Like a boutique hotel, Villa Antea has bright, cozy and particularly spacious rooms with very high ceilings. Upon your arrival we will give you a map of the city with the main attractions to visit and a little booklet with useful information about the B&B and Florence. Overall, Villa Antea offers our guests all the comfort and elegance of a top class hotel with a personalized attention. We are sure it will be a place you will long remember. ... more less
