We had an excellent room (# 312) with a balcony overlooking a courtyard. The bathroom had a two person shower with multiple jets. Both room and bathroom were very clean, well decorated and spacious. A pretty good, continental breakfast is served daily. There is a fitness room, but it contains a treadmill and a couple of hand weights -- nothing special. The parking is at an additional cost and the garage is several blocks away. Be aware the hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the city center / main tourist attractions. It's walkable, but can get old, especially after long days walking around the city. If you come out of the hotel and take a left and follow the street behind the hotel there is a river. Take the wisteria covered bridge across the river and you'll find a great gelateria and a neighborhood park through the iron gates that is really beautiful. Great for strolling in early evening with the locals. I'd rate this hotel higher if located closer to the city center, but otherwise great!

Room Tip: Room 312 is in the back of the hotel so it very quiet and overlooks a courtyard. It also has a terra...

15 min. walk away from the cultural center, this hotel is located in a nice and secure area and it is also very convenient to go from there to the airport. The rooms have been newly refurbished and were very spacious and nicely furnished. The bathroom was very good quality and the windows noise absorbing. We also highly appreciated the generous drawer space. Breakfast was delicious in a pleasant location and staff multilingual and highly attentive. What astonished us the most was the fair price compared to many "agroturismo-B&B" in the Tuscany, where we paid more money for less value!

Well this hotel is a really nice hotel in a very handy location. The breakfast room was great but no restaurant, there is a bar which serve frozen heated up meals, pretty poor really. The room was amazing very spacious and everything you need. Most of the staff were polite especially the lady who served us at the bar, and the ladies serving in the breakfast room but it all stops there, I found the staff at the front desk quite un helpful and I don't think they know how to smile. I wanted to use the fitness room but had to go to the front desk dressed for fitness to ask for someone to let me in. This had to be done each time I wanted to use it, I thought this was rather annoying as I could get to the room from our room. Overall a nice enough stay, maybe the desk staff could take a few lessons in PR skills.

Dear guest, we thank you and we will keep in mind your complaint to do our best in future. Our American Bar is not a restaurant and serves simple dishes for clients that prefer a quiet location instead of crowded restaurants in the surroundings. We apologise if you didn't find a feeling with our front desk staff, normally very appreciated from all our clients. Regarding our fitness area it should have been enough to call from your room our reception to request the above service.
Best regards.

Though not within the center of the city, this hotel has wonderfully well maintained modern rooms and is a great value. Staff were incredibly helpful recommending sites to see and calling for restaurant reservations and calling a taxi the day of our departure. The major sites are a 15-20 minute walk. Breakfast with nice selection of hot and cold foods. Would stay here again.

On the POSITIVE side: renovated room, excellent style, brand new bathrooms with massage shower, attentive choice of materials (marble, wood, ...). Swift check-in and check-out, personnel very efficient and helpful both at reception and breakfast.

On the negative side: if you have problems with stiff mattresses, you might want to consider the following issue: I was in room 300 and something, and the bed was definitely over too hard. I wonder why this choice, given that hotels normally go for medium or so. Also, no pillows choice and pillows quality not great*. Room insonorization could be better too.

Location: walking distance from the historic centre (10-15 mins walk), 25 mins to the airport, close to Fiesole (direct bus 7 leaves from close to the hotel), convenient for accessing universities in the area.

*I don't know if they would have been willing to change room, as I didn't ask. Normally, when you get to notice that you are about to sleep on stone, it sometimes after 11pm and wearing your pajama. So, as I slept there only 1 night, I did not bother asking.

Room Tip: If you have issues with stiff mattresses, check whether they have a room with a soft one.

absolutely lovely room, beautiful small hotel, excellent breakfast included. huge room, huge closet, safe in room (free), fridge and kettle provided when requested. large marble bath with tub and shower, large vanity. unlike other european hotels, there was drawer space provided in both the bed area and also in the huge closet.
only drawback we found was that transportation around the city was not terribly convenient.
would definately recommend the hotel. this was our best hotel out of 3 cities visited.

My wife and I traveled to Florence last July and stayed at the San Gallo Palace Hotel for 6 nights. For our 3 week vacation in Italy we slept at 5 hotels and this was the best one. We booked it through Expedia and were eligible for a VIP upgrade which the hotel automatically provided without us even asking. The room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable. It had marble design through much of it with an impressive shower containing several jets. As well, there was a large balcony looking out into an attractive garden area. A secure combination safe protected our valuables. A complimentary breakfast was served every morning with a great variety of eggs, meats, juices and toast. An elevator took us up to our room so there was no need to climb any stairs. They have a relaxing patio area next to their bar where you can easily enjoy a coffee or beer. Its right next to Piazza Liberta and only about a 20 minute walk to the Duomo. If you prefer to take a bus, stops are on every street corner surrounding the hotel. There's a great little steak house nearby called Perseus. We found the staff to be very friendly and willing to accommodate every request. Without question, I would love to stay at San Gallo Palace Hotel again should I return to Florence!
