I've stated with my family 2 times in 2011 and really I can't found anything bad in this hotel, it's cozy, clean, with good installations, great and nice staff and excellent breakfast. The location I found it good also and you can take a bus just in the corner to go to most of the places. I really recommend this Hotel to everyone. Grate Value!!! we can wait to stay again with you guys!!!. Thanks for everything.

Room Tip: the have some rooms with balcony I love it!!!

We stayed at SGP for 5 days in Sept, 2012. The biggest drawback to this place is that it's fairly far from the center of Florence, requiring a bus ride, taxi, or fairly long (~30 min) walk to get anywhere. Also, it's right on Piazza della Liberta' which is a *very* busy, large roundabout (agree with Caroline P). Trying to get across the streets was always a bit unnerving, and just an unpleasant way to start out the morning.
The room was reasonably nice, and my wife looooved the shower, but ours was in the front and had some noise issues from the heavy traffic around Liberta'. The breakfast was fine, but unremarkable. The only difference from the 3-star place we stayed at in Rome was that SGP had scrambled eggs and bacon. Big deal.
Mitch2nd mentioned they had some insect bite problems, and we did too. However, I'm sure it had to have been some insidious little Italian mosquitoes. My wife had terrible reactions to the bites. But she got some in Rome and Venice too, so I don't think fair to suggest SGP has a hygiene problem.
I don't think I'd stay here again, due to the location. If you're going to Florence, get something closer in.

One exception would be if you're crazy enough to be driving to Florence. SGP is 1 block from a large parking garage on the north side of town.

This is a good hotel but there are certain issues I can. We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights.
The hotel is really easy to find and is about 10 Euro from the train station. It is about 20 minute walk from the centre of Florence.
The hotel staff are nice and helpful. I did ask for a quiet room which they did give me, which faced the court yard. However our room was near the cleaner's storeroom or rubbish collection as we heard the trollies go past many times throughout the day and night. The floors tiled so you can hear every foot step. Also we were near the water pipes so everytime people upstairs used the toilet or shower we heard lots of running water in the room. So we didn't get that many good night's sleep in our 5 night stay. I would INSIST of a very quiet room if you book and do not get room 83 on the ground floor.
Other issues include a shower which wasn't very powerful at all, however the bathroom was rather big. They didn't have a bath mat (so be very careful when getting in and out) and so had to reach quite fair to reach the towels when in the bath/shower. You could slip and hurt yourself so be very careful!!
Also, the fridge was completly usefless and didn't even work. The water wasn't cool, it was room temperature. It actually made the safe above it very warm indeed so be careful if you've got electronics in the safe.
There was 3 restaurants nearby, 2 of which we went to and were really good. Great food.

I would not stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: INSIST on a quiet room, high up facing the court yard

Dear Guest,

first of all, we thank you for your comment. It is always interesting knowing the reviews of our guests. What you complained about the noise seems strange to us, as room 83 isn't either near to any storage or cleaner's room. There are only two rooms after room 83 and their guests pass, through the corridor, in front of the room , but they shouldn't have made all the noise that you complained. Furthermore, no pipes pass through the roof of the room, because all drains are in column inside the walls of the bathrooms.
Remaining at your disposal
Kind Regards

We stayed only one night as we were passing through Florence to Venice. The staff was friendly and helpful, the service excellent, the rooms very nice. We were happily surprised to have a balcony off the room. The true value of the hotel was made evident to us when my husband realized he was having a recurrence of a medical condition that requires immediate treatment. This happened at 7:15 on a Sunday morning. Hotel staff called a medical clinic, the doctor on call came to our room by 8:45. By 9:15 we had a prescription filled and were at the train station for the next leg of our trip. Certainly this is not the primary reason to stay here, but its nice to know there is a safety net in the event of the need!

And as everyone else has said the location is perfect for exploring Florence!

So wanted to give this hotel a 5 star rating

I will start with the positives

I note from some of the other reviews that there were moans about the distance from the centre of Florence and the price of taxis

Sure it is not in the centre, but it a slow 12 minute walk into Florence centre and there are many different streets that you can take so that you can see different things on the way in and out.

There are restaurants, bars and shops that you can stop in on the journey which we did.

Taxis, we got a taxi from the train terminal to the hotel this cost only 6 Euros, we also got a taxi from the hotel in the centre of Florence and that only cost 6 Euros, come on guys 6 Euros? If you can’t afford that then maybe you are on the wrong type of holiday.

Now the hotel, I thought it was a great location.

All the staff were brilliant and friendly, there was a well dressed older gentleman that was around at breakfast time and he was excellent.

Very nice atmosphere, great breakfast and nice rooms. The TV choice was a bit poor though, I know you don’t go on holiday to watch TV but when you are getting ready to go out it’s nice to have something to watch. I also like to watch a bit of TV when I go back to bed.

Now why can’t I give it 5 stars. Well bedbugs or something similar.

The room were very clean, however after the first night we noticed some redness on legs etc.

Thought nothing more of it, by the time we left many bites and in places we know could only be from being in bed, without going into detail.

It was by that time too late to complain, so a couple of days after we got back home I sent them an email, really just to say they should check it out.

The response was surprising. They said that the couple that stayed in the room the day we left did not have a problem, although they only stayed the one night, they also said that they checked our bed sheets for blood etc.

Now bed bugs cannot be always detected by this method, but what was more worrying is that it would appear that they were saying that the couple staying still had our sheets on the bed, I don’t believe that a couple of days later they had our old sheets lying around and they knew which room they were from, as during our stay the hotel had many guests.

However with that said, I still think it’s a great hotel to use while in Florence and would use it again, only this time the very first signs of bites we would tell the staff.

Stayed here for two nights and found it a perfect place from which to explore Florence. The main sights are an easy 40 minute walk away, and the despite being in a busy part of town the hotel is quiet, calm and well appointed. Our room was very well appointed, large with a big bathroom and nice balcony and all spotlessly clean. The bar area was nice, if a little expensive, and breakfast was very good. The staff were all excellent, particularly the concierge/receptionist who couldn't do enough for us and happily made us bookings at restaurants, booked taxis etc.
