This place is on the top floor of what used to be the residence of a countess, according to Alessandro, the son's owner. The ceilings and windows are tall and the front door, massive. My room, overlooking a garden, was peaceful and quiet, an oasis in busy Florence! I was awakened to the sounds of birds and the tolling of church bells. The location is excellent, within walking distance to everything and a few blocks from the Firenze SMN station (I realized, after the fact, of the importance of being close to the station after dragging my poor luggage over the city's famous cobblestoned streets). It is also easy to find as it is across from the renowned Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella. Luciano, the owner, is welcoming, gracious and helpful with many tips on places to eat and visit. Bellevue House does not have breakfast but there are numerous places nearby. It also does not have an elevator, so if you cannot carry your luggage, ring the bell at street level and someone will come rushing down. I will not hesitate to come here again for the hospitality, location and the charm that elevates it above the ordinary.
