This is a great hotel mere steps from EL Duomo and centrally located in Florence. The staff was professional, welcoming, and unobtrusive. Breakfast was included in the very affordable room rate. The room was extra spacious, well appointed, and included a comfortable bed and a large bathroom. Computer and printer were available in the dining room area - we were offered assistance making reservations, etc. but as we had already made all our arrangements we politely declined. Would be happy to return in the future for a longer stay.

Celebrating our 33rd anniversary, we wanted something special and this hotel fit the bill. Just a few steps (really!) off the Piazza del Duomo, we were surprised to find our room facing the courtyard to be quiet and the hotel peaceful despite the bustle nearby. The bed was large and comfortable- a little stiff in the Italian hotel style, but I like that. The bathroom was downright sumptuous, all black and white marble. The room decor was in keeping with the building's identity as a Florentine palazzo-elegant draping over the bed and a lovely wardrobe painted in light colors with curtained doors.
The salon had high, beamed ceilings, large windows, and elegant furnishings. It was equally comfortable as a breakfast room (great European spread and gracious service) or for a light night drink. The bar is self-serve with an array of choices. It is run on the honor system, but there are cameras nearby (trust, but verify!).
The hotel manager, Ms. Niccolini, was gracious to meet us when we arrived after midnight due to a delayed flight. She made sure we got comfortably oriented and settled in for the night. However, here is why we could not give a five-star rating:
We asked the hotel to arrange a car to pick us up at the airport and they did, but their normal driver was unavailable, so they contacted Blue Car Service to come get us. Problem was that our flight from LA had equipment trouble and diverted to JFK for repairs and a 3 hour delay, so we missed our connection in Frankfurt. We emailed the Niccolini to tell them we would not be at the Florence airport at the agreed time, but they did not get the email in time to notify Blue Car. So, the driver left after waiting for us a long time, we took a cab to the Niccolini, and I got an angry phone call from Matteo at Blue Car demanding double the agreed amount, although we finally settled on the amount we had agreed to pay in the first place. Now, the email failure was not Blue Car's fault and I understand that Blue Car had to pay their driver, but maybe they could have swallowed whatever profit margin they had built in to their price. Ms. Niccolini did try to talk to Matteo and work something out, but in the end she said that "there is nothing to be done." The email failure was not her fault, either, but we feel that the hotel of this stature could have made some gesture, maybe directed us toward a friendly restaurant that would give us the royal treatment.

Room Tip: The rooms facing courtyard are quiet, but if a view is important, book early.

To start the place was in a great central location. Walking distance to everything.
The place was beautiful. The breakfasts were fresh and delicious and the staff was extremely helpful. The staff helped me plan trips to the countryside as well as book restaurants well in advance of our arrival. When I go back to Florence, this is where i will be staying.

Palazzo Niccolini was one of our favorite hotels on our two week trip to Italy. We stayed in apartment #8, which truly was like a small apartment, with separate bedroom and sitting room overlooking their courtyard. The bathroom was the absolutely best, two large sinks with lots of counterspace and shelves to hold all our toilettries, makeup, toothbrushes, etc. The decorations were also quite beautiful and the bed/sheets were of the highest quality and most comfortable of all the hotels we stayed in. Also, the room for breakfast is quite stunning and clearly lovingly restored by the owner. Breakfast was a bit more limited than other hotels, but the sweet lady who serves you is so nice, that you just sit back and enjoy. The hotel has more of a bed/breakfast feel than a regular hotel, so keep in mind that if you stay here that the staff is only available from 8am to 9pm (they give you a set of keys and access key to open the front gated door into the palazzo after hours). So, if you have to leave before 8am for a flight or train, it might be a challenge, arrange everything the day before. I would definitely stay here again. Really a gem.

Room Tip: Our apartment was quite spacious (it was called the Blue Suite on their website).

I stayed at the Palazzo Niccolini al Duomo for three days in mid-June. This is a small hotel that is located right in the center of Florence, on Via dei Servi, and immediately adjacent to al Duomo. Simply put, it was a highlight of my 10-day trip to Italy. I stayed in room 7 on the third floor. As you enter the room, there is a small staircase that leads up to into the sitting room. It has high ceilings, accented with exposed beams. There are huge windows on three sides of the room which afford a view of Florence and the countryside beyond. The most dramatic aspect of the view is al Duomo; you’re so close looms dramatically over the room (see pictures). The space is rounded out by a bedroom and bath off the main room. The bedroom is good size with a large amount of storage. The bathroom was fairly small, but worked perfectly for me. Finally, and surprisingly, on a raised area in the sitting room (accessed via another small staircase) there is a circular jacuzzi tub! So, at night, you can raise all of your shades (motorized, via remote), and sit in the tub drinking wine and gazing at the illuminated dome! Amazing!

The staff of the hotel is outstanding. Every morning at breakfast, there was a very sweet lady who made sure that everyone had what they needed. She also made outstanding cappuccinos. In addition, every morning, I checked my intended destination(s) with the front desk staff. They are outstanding! And, a bonus of the location was that everything was a short walk away. The only time I needed a taxi in Florence was to head to the (nearby) airport.

I cannot recommend Palazzo Niccolini highly enough!

Room Tip: Room 7 is outstanding!

We were thrilled with the beautiful accommodations, friendly service and perfect location. Although it is situated close to the Duomo, there is little evidence of noise or traffic. We highly recommend this lovely Palazzo.
We had an apartment which was very convenient for business meetings. In addition, a family would be very comfortable in this space.

Looking forward to staying there again!

We arrived into Florence by car (one of our favourite cities in the world). Parked in a parking station outside of town and caught the little bus into our accommodation. A short walk down cobble stoned streets was necessary, but we all managed even with the luggage – kids included. We booked a taxi for the return journey through reception. Location – OMG! You could not get any closer to the centre of Florence unless you were sleeping in the Duomo itself! Felt very safe and secure here. Help was on hand to get luggage up the stairs. Reception was not on the ground floor. There was a small lift which we did not use. I think we had room 10. A double with a bathroom, plus a twin with another bathroom and another small double with another bathroom, a small lounge included also, could not have asked for more. Beautifully decorated!! Felt very much like you would expect Italy to feel. Gorgeous breakfast room (felt like we were in a palace), lovely breakfast included. Think the Niccolini has it’s own restaurant which unfortunately we did not dine in. But once you exit the building through the archway, turn left to head to the Duomo and on the corner is a fantastic restaurant serving yummy meals for great prices with entertaining staff :)
