“Domus Florentiae - excellent location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2012

We visited Florence for a week in May and chose this hotel based on Tripadvisor reviews. We were not disappointed. The location is excellent - literally 5 minutes from train and bus stations, 10 minutes from Duomo and other major attractions. Note that Walkabout tours (we rate them excellent) have their pick up point at the rail station which could not be handier. The hotel rooms are very clean and functional. We had room 107 which is a superior room at the front of the hotel. The room and bathroom were both large, windows looked out onto piazza which could be noisy but did not bother us at all. Staff were so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Breakfast is quite basic, but sufficient. We would use this hotel again.

Room Tip: Rooms at back would be quieter, but most likely smaller

We've been to Florence twice and twice have stayed at this hotel. I have no issues with this hotel whatsoever. Room was big enough for three of us, bathroom nice, generally the room and hotel were clean. Didn't encounter any noises outside as one of the reviewers below commented. No problems at all! Close to attractions and to the train station. That's all we needed really! Staff were always nice whenever we saw them. Had a good time staying here :-)

Stayed here for one night while spending two days in Florence during our two weeks in Italy. The hotel is walking distance from the train station at Piazza Santa Maria Novella, and the receptionist was friendly and helpful. We were disappointed that our room was on the main floor across the way from the front desk, but were even more disappointed when we saw the inside of the room. There was a cigarette burn on the comforter, the shower didn't drain properly (I had to turn the water off twice during a ten minute shower so that the bathroom didn't flood). The lighting is poor and the room is dingy, the wooden bed frame was beat up, chunks of wood missing like someone hacked at it with a chisel! It seemed clean at first besides the cigarette burn, but my fiancé and I both woke up in the middle of the night to the sounds of buzzing insects...we never opened the window/door once, but somehow there were Mosquitos in the room...needless to say, we were too skeeved out to sleep much. I am still paranoid that the place had bedbugs, I wish I had known how to check for them and had checked upon entering the room! The staff was nice, the wifi worked okay, the breakfast wasn't worth eating, and the room was a dump! Better places to be found for less euros!

Dear Guest,
first of all i like to thank you for the preference that you given to my hotel.

I remember very well that morning and i visit your room.
Not knowing what had appened i remember that i was sorry infinitely becouse i didn't not...
I remebner that you was my guest free of charge including breakfast.
Only after i verified that was not about insect.

Now i hope that you can understand what is a review like that.
Please read all the review in Trip Advisor and i hope that you can understand that you make a big mistake.

Our hotel, and you know because you read in advance, has only nice review.
I think that you have to change your opinion when you travel, you are very damaging for an hotel with declaration like your one.

Best regards

A lovely charming old home where one of the floors has been turned into a small hotel.Plenty of room for three ladies very comfortable. Bathroom a good size.
Front desk staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast adequate you could enjoy eating out on the terrace watching the town wake up. Amazing. Easy to find from the train station. You can walk to the hotel it's that close. Easy access to all the sights . Markets not that far away. Lots of good restaurants to choose from.
Yes could stay here again. Thank you to the staff for being so warm and friendly.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms over looking the square near the church.

When we first got there it was easy to find and close to train station by first impression didn't do it any favors. Once inside we found a nice place small, but big enough we were early around 1130 but the room was ready so they let us check in. Staff were very helpful, bed was a bit hard and breakfast was small. It is a 3 star hotel that's small but with polite helpful staff

This is an excellent location for Florence. If you can book this place i encourage you to do so. value for price paid was excellent (NOV) and location can't be better - we were a short 5 minute walk from the train station, surrounded by great food and a outstanding Mercato (must see on first day!). The hotel staff was very kind. The room is well appointed, large, but the beds need a change out - not so comfortable but after a long day walking they were okay. There are some really great restaurants next to the hotel and down several of the streets. Breakfast was included in our rate and was very good except the coffee. They have a machine to dispense but with sufficient complaints they shut it down and provided great espresso and capps. Highly recommended property but we didn't need air conditioning.

Domus is just five minutes walk from Florence Central Train station right on a square right next to an old church. fantastic location right in the city area. It is upstairs on first floor - lift provided. No aircon. Reception staff speak excellent English and are very helpful and friendly. They have a lot of information for tourists. this seems to be a busy hotel so book early. Our room was a deluxe and excellent. Large, windows open to square - very exciting. When closed noise no problem. Bathroom was large, excellent plumbing and quality. the room and bathroom were spotless. Safe, minibar and lounge area with TV. Breakfast was on the balcony and beautifully served. Highly recommend this hotel and in retrospect would have liked to stay at this hotel in Florence for a week instead of a couple of days.

Room Tip: Ask for front room opening to square - deluxe room.
