The biggest problem is the overwhelming noise from the piazza below. It's pretty loud well into the night and when the crowd clears the clean-up crews start so the noise is ongoing. Bring your earplugs. Otherwise, the accommodations were good for the price. You will not be pampered here but if you are just looking for a clean, safe place to stay this will do just fine.

A room with a view, as stated in the web page, and it truly is wonderful. But when the owners can offer this why would they have to offer any thing else? A shower that leaks water on the floor then no clean towels when used to mop up the water. A dissmal breakfast. No tea or coffee facilities available at all. A sitting area in the main room roped off, lest you feel inclined to sit there. No service available at all just leave a note on the desk. ( Other guests even knocked on our door asking could they borrow breakfast plates & cups when we had finished with ours)
And by far the worst, after booking I was assured we would recieve assistance to get our luggage up 4 steep flights of stairs, but is it forth coming? No. A complaining owner, about having to do this, and on leaving well one look at the waiting bags sends him scurring behind a closed door. We spent a month travelling and this was our worst experience in service and generally feeling unwelcome and like intruders Our overall thought was, they got our money, we got a view. Would we stay there again? Probably not.

My wife and I stayed in Soggiorno Battistero for 4 nights in November 2003.
I am writing this review, now on July 19, 2004 because I cannot forget this place. It was that great! The location is the greatest thing about this place. Although we did not meet Kelly, Luca was a great host. Always helpful, always courteous.
The people who complain about the towels being wet are obviously some typical self-absorbed whiners that are part of the reason Americans have the bad reputation that the rest of us have to try to prove wrong. Hang the towels up yourselves, morons.
The breakfast, yes it was simple. It was always delivered on time to your door and what do you expect for the price you pay? Some people expect to be treated like they are staying at the Ritz while paying Travelodge rates!
The rooms were kept very clean, simply furnished, absolutely gorgeous view from the rooms, excellent people watching, and the location is the best in Florence.
I would recommend this place to anyone. I will stay here when I return to Florence, no questions.

It is true that there are a good deal of stairs to climb when you stay here. Hello!?! This is Italy. This building is 600 years old. Elevators are a relatively new addition to architecture and lazy bums that can't walk up 4 flights of stairs or wish they had a TV in their room should stay home in their double wide trailers.

My wife and I were here in November of 2003. The location is unbeatable, just a few paces from the Duomo. An added bonus was that our well appointed room looked out over the Baptistery and the Duomo...gorgeous...and for only 80 Euro per night.

Contrary to what some have stated, we found the service to be friendly and attentive. The breakfast comprised two pieces of toast, a hard boiled egg, a muffin and OJ, which was the best hotel breakfast we had on our two week trip. The only downside is that the hotel is on the fourth floor, which is actually also a positive because of the resulting view.

Bottom line, I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights in June '04. The hotel was effeciently run and clean. The views from room 2 were spectatcular. We were concerned about street noise, but the windows eliminated all evening sound. You are in the heart of Florence and it can be very noisey, even past midnight. No TV. Who cares. You didn't come to Florence to watch TV. No internet. Yes, we expected to have access, but found internet cafes. Kelly and Luca were cordial and helpful in every way. The breakfast was a fine start to a new day. When we left early on the last day, they prepared a take away breakfast for us the night before. Received 10% discount for cash and lack of air-cond. Definitely would return.

First of all, the positives: great location, great views, very clean rooms. Now, the disappointments: the hosts, Kelly & Luca were both less than friendly (evidently we weren't the only ones who felt this way from reading previous reviews); on the morning following our first night here, we showered and threw our towels on the floor to be replaced. When we returned to the room, we noticed the towels had been picked up and hung up still damp. When we asked for fresh towels we were told that towel exchange was every other day. This was not disclosed before, and who just picks up your dirty towels off the floor and hangs them back up? We thought this was weird. Then, the heat is on "lock-out", which means they control when it comes on; several times it got quite chilly in our room before the heat came back on. We asked if the heat could be turned on and were told that it was pre-set. There were numerous signs about how washing laundry in the sink was PROHIBITED. We found this interesting since this is a Rick Steves recommended hotel, and what does Rick Steves recommend? Traveling light and washing out laundry in your hotel sink. Also, the included breakfast was cheesy. It included 2 forms of prepackaged bread. Here we are in a city full of great bakeries, some fresh biscotti or muffins would have been nice. And finally, the walls are paper-thin. We could here the hostess putting her cup down on the counter and turning pages in a book from inside our room. We are budget travels, not hotel snobs, and given the choice, we would not stay here again.

My husband and I stayed here in Sept. '03 for our honeymoon. All reviews are true. This place did have a great location. No TV. The breakfast was OK. The climb with luggage was difficult - don't stay here if you have issues with stairs. (For us, it was fine.) We had read somewhere (I think Rick Steves?) that Internet access was provided to guests, but when we got there, there was no shared computer for guests to use. There was a computer that looked broken though - perhaps it had just broken down? Anyway, we needed access as we were looking up train schedules - ended up searching for and finally going to an Internet cafe.
