“Historic, stylish and cool”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2014

Alas only one night this time on this our third visit to Florence. We loved this hotel - the service at reception and on the fantastic roof terrace for pre dinner drinks or breakfast was excellent. We had a lovely spacious room with traditional and cool modern touches, very light and airy. Modern bathroom. Location - couldn't get better right on the North Bank of the Arno by one of the main bridges.

Very helpful and professional staff and a decent breakfast. The room we had was great overlooking the river Arno. The roof terrace is excellent providing guests with complementary tea and coffee as well as some fantastic views. Very central too.

My wife & I spent 3 nights at this luxury hotel with a lovely view of the Arno River. The lady at reception, Mika, was outstanding. Had arranged transport from & to the hotel for us, tickets to Academia Galleria, driver/guide for a tour in the Tuscany area etc - all arranged via email prior to us arriving in Florence. The other staff were also friendly, helpful and attentive. The location of the hotel is GREAT - short walk to the Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, Piazza di Santa Maria Novella etc. Breakfast on the terrace with a view of the river & Florence - amazing. We could not really ask for more. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a river view

Mom, Dad and teenage daughter stayed 4 nights in the 2 bed 2 bath Renaissance Suite. The hotel was our favorite among the fine hotels of our Rome, Sorrento, Florence, Paris trip. The location is tremendous being in the center of the Historic District. The hotels front door faces the Ferragamo flagship store and turn right you at the river. The property itself is extremely clean very well maintained. Many people write about the terraces and it is a highlight of the property. We ended every night by sitting on the terrace discussing all the sights we had seen and enjoying the skyline. The employees were all very professional and polite. While the front desk wears many hats they seem to be able accomplish them all very well. For use they made reservations; recommendations; called cabs; used there printer; and all the normal things.
The suite was very very nice with a tremendous bed and bathrooms. The breakfast was a full buffet and they accommodated us with some special requests.

Room Tip: The Renaissance Suite is a great option if you need two rooms.

I am a very spoiled traveler, only travel first class, eat at the best restaurants and stay at the finest hotels, period.
This hotel is outstanding and I will always stay there when I go to Florence and I will recommend it to anyone.
The service staff is wonderful. The hotel location is the best spot for doing what your are suppose to do in Florence and that is walk around to explore and discover for yourself this treasure of a city.
I had a view of the river and it was extraordinary.
I pick this gem of a hotel over any Four Seasons or Ritz

Room Tip: View of the river

This hotel has the most perfect terraces to breakfast overlooking the river and many of Florence's bridges. The main two roof terraces overlook the river and the Duomo and all the terracotta roofs of Florence , perfection! Wonderful and very attentive service , ask for restaurant recommendations and you won't be disappointed! Bar on the roof is a perfect addition and every member of staff was friendly and very helpful ! This hotel is worth every penny ! Fantastic!

My husband and I spent 3 nights at this wonderful boutique hotel on one of the most exclusive streets of historic Florence. We had a classic room with king size bed which was very pretty and comfortable. The bathroom is well appointed with a good size shower. Since this is an old building the water pressure is not great but certainly adequate. The hotel has a beautiful terrace on the top floor with outstanding views of Florence, the Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio. We enjoyed a pre-dinner drink one evening which was relaxing and panoramic. I think one of the best features of this hotel is the location. It is literally a few steps from the Arno and a 3 minute walk to Ponte Vecchio. The Duomo is a 5 minute walk and since this is the center of Florence, you are really close to everything. The hotel made a wonderful dinner recommendation to a restaurant around the corner called L'Parione. The steak florentine and roasted potatoes were to die for! We truly enjoyed our stay at Antica Torre dei Via Tournabouni and would definitely return.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 402 which was very nice and had a pretty good view.

Green Features: They do ask us to hang up our towels for re-use in order to save the planet, but the hooks on the bathroom door are not great and the towels had difficulty staying on the hooks.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We personally enjoy welcoming our guests, we wish to reinvent the concept of hospitality, and we have the inspiration to provide the warmth of home in every detail. This is how the Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1, Florence came to be: a tower-house built in the mid-12th century by the Guelph family of Ruggerini. At the beginning of the 20th century, this palace became "Pensione Piccioli," and quickly turned into a privileged residence for aristocrats and English writers. Closed after the Great War, Pensione Piccioli reopened in 2001, as a Period Residence called "Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1." Thanks to attentive restoration to preserve all its original charm, the evocative ambiance of the Palace on Via Tornabuoni has regained life and warmth. This magnificent complex is considered one of the typical "tower-houses" of Mediaeval Florence, and, to this day, it still preserves all its characteristic architectural elements: it is an admirable example of the human ability to convert buildings built for war into oases of peace, culture and hospitality. In this ancient tower, we have created a world of harmony, privacy, and attentiveness to our guests' needs. Luxury, peace, and beauty are all in traditional Italian style, and give the concept of comfort new aesthetics. Almost all rooms enjoy an enchanting view of the city or the Arno River, and all are furnished with the highest in comfort: satellite plasma TVs, DVD players, wireless internet connection, direct line telephone, minibar, electronic safe, air conditioning and heating, private marble bath with tub and/or shower, hair dryer, slippers and shoehorns. Some of the Rooms and Suites are decorated with a Renaissance flair: with frescoes, drapes in coloured precious fabrics, bathrooms in red Alcantara or Gold Calacatta marble, and romantic four poster beds. ... more   less
