Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni was a great place to stay. The location was close to the city and an easy walk to where everything was. The rooms were nice, the rooftop terrace had breath taking views, the staff were helpful and friendly. The bruschetta at the breakfast buffet was the best we had in Italy. We loved our experience at Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni and would recommend it as a good place to stay and we would stay there again if we ever go back to Florence. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit there!

A hidden gem, originally a medieval tower, this lovely hotel has large beautiful rooms with great bathrooms, and fabulous roof top terraces with 360 degree views of Florence. Breakfast room is also on the rooftop where there is also on off-hours honors bar. A super unexpected plus was the quiet - it's on the pedestrians only end of Via Tornabuoni. The concierge was enormously helpful with all our special requests.Service was always with a smile.I look forward to going back!

Room Tip: All the rooms are different, so be specific about what you want, and book very early! This is a smal...

This was our first time in Italy. We stayed at the Antica Torre at the recommendation of our travel agent as we were looking for a boutique hotel that would give us the flavor of Florence rather than an American hotel in Italy. This hotel didn't disappoint. The rooms are charming and well-appointed. Some of them have beautiful views of the city rooftops. The location is right near the river, very close to the Ponte Vecchio, and walking distance to many sites, shops and restaurants. The staff all spoke excellent English and the front desk was very accommodating in making restaurant recommendations, reservations, etc.

The rooftop restaurant served a continental breakfast each morning with typical European fare - meats, cheeses, yogurt, fruit, bread and pastries. It was ample, but nothing special. The views from the adjacent terrace, on the other hand, were wonderful. It would have been a great place to sit and read, but the temps were in the mid to high 90s when we were there. While not "full-service" (no room service here!) they have a bar and guests are able to make their own drinks if a bartender isn't on duty. Be aware that the hotel offers free WiFi but it was spotty and didn't work at all one day.

This is a beautiful, unique place to stay in Florence. We would recommend it--and would stay there if we visit Florence again.

PROS:
- Ambience (medieval tower from the 13th century)
- Charm
- Smiley Service (incredibly helpful women in the reception)
- Rooftop terrace (fantastic views both towards the Duomo and towards the Arno river)
- Relatively spacious room and nice bathroom (we had a Deluxe)
- Views from room (rooftops and partial view of the Duomo, we were on the 4th floor)
- Location (5-10 minutes walking from the Duomo & the Uffizi)

CONS:
- WiFi was a bit irregular in our room (on the terrace it worked better)
- Small hotel with small staff (if 3 people want to check out at the same moment it will take time)
- Parking is expensive at EUR 32/night (but this is Florence, and the valet parking did work great)

I have been going back to Florence on a regular basis and have stayed in different hotels. Antica Torre di Via Tournabuoni was highly recommended by my sister. I decided to try and and boy was I really impressed. The location is just perfect ! We are in the corner of Via Tournabuoni and the road facing the Arno River. The receptionist were very friendly, accommodating and helpful. Very unusual among Italians > Our room was spacious and the bathrooms too were well sized . They gave you thick towels. The view from the roof top terrace was dazzling ! On one side you are facing the Duomo and on the other side you had a birds eye view of Florence and the River Arno. I highly recommend it and will definitely return. This will be my new home in my favorite city

Room Tip: Stay on the 5th floor so you can just take the stairs to the Roof Top Terrace

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We personally enjoy welcoming our guests, we wish to reinvent the concept of hospitality, and we have the inspiration to provide the warmth of home in every detail. This is how the Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1, Florence came to be: a tower-house built in the mid-12th century by the Guelph family of Ruggerini. At the beginning of the 20th century, this palace became "Pensione Piccioli," and quickly turned into a privileged residence for aristocrats and English writers. Closed after the Great War, Pensione Piccioli reopened in 2001, as a Period Residence called "Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1." Thanks to attentive restoration to preserve all its original charm, the evocative ambiance of the Palace on Via Tornabuoni has regained life and warmth. This magnificent complex is considered one of the typical "tower-houses" of Mediaeval Florence, and, to this day, it still preserves all its characteristic architectural elements: it is an admirable example of the human ability to convert buildings built for war into oases of peace, culture and hospitality. In this ancient tower, we have created a world of harmony, privacy, and attentiveness to our guests' needs. Luxury, peace, and beauty are all in traditional Italian style, and give the concept of comfort new aesthetics. Almost all rooms enjoy an enchanting view of the city or the Arno River, and all are furnished with the highest in comfort: satellite plasma TVs, DVD players, wireless internet connection, direct line telephone, minibar, electronic safe, air conditioning and heating, private marble bath with tub and/or shower, hair dryer, slippers and shoehorns. Some of the Rooms and Suites are decorated with a Renaissance flair: with frescoes, drapes in coloured precious fabrics, bathrooms in red Alcantara or Gold Calacatta marble, and romantic four poster beds. ... more   less
