“Fronting the church”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

The plaza is a quiet 'getaway' from the hoopla of the train/bus station behind the church. It leads one to the courtyard of the Maria Novella which I sadly missed on my departure day due to rain and a crowd line. But this is surely worth a visit, it toto: the church, plaza and courtyard. Florentines encourage a visit here.

“The best Gelato in Florence”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

We found the best Gelato in Florence in the gelaterie located in the corner of the piazze di Santa Maria Novella. The Piazza it self was nice, in July '12 it wasn't full of people, but there was enough going on for it not to be boring. Go, get some gelato and just walk and watch the Church of Santa Maria Novella, it's great.

“Charming and beautiful!”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

Gelateria in the piazza, various small shops, not too far from Farmers Market (in the mornings!) and street vendors (all day).

“piazza santa maria novella”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

Located Very near the railway station, the square takes the name by the church of Santa Maria Novella that is very big and worth a visit. You can relax yourself sitting on a bench and pleasantly admire the square

“Nice view of the SMN façade but the piazza as such is bland”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

I guess the title says it all but since the exit from the museum leads you to the piazza, you don't have much of a choice and can judge for yourself.
