At night is best, the sound of the water, the fountain lid up and the music at the piazza.. the crows and small trattorias... it's fun it's a great place to be...

You can't really miss it - right next to the Medici palace and next door to a great ice cream place!
I looked upon this statue while eating a steak Florentina ... but when I returned in August, it was shrouded in canvass and scaffolding and under restoration.
The fountain was hidden by scaffolding when we visited--what a disappointment! Not sure how long the renovations will take, but don't expect to see this site anytime soon.
Under construction for now and not sure how long. So could not really see while surrounded by scaffolding but other statues in Signoria are all within view.
Whilst inevitably fountains such as this must be renovated & therefore one could feel cheated not seeing it.. the explanatory panels outside give an amazing account of its turbulent history & when the current( much needed) repairs & further innovations are completed by next year (?) it should be worth returning to enjoy it even more!
