I wouldn't trade my climb to the top of the bell tower for anything. I got a pass at a local museum for several local attractions in the area of the Duomo and climbing to the top of the Bell tower was one of them.

It is quite a hike, something around 550 steps to the top, when you think you've reached the top you're still not there yet! It is all worth it for the views though. 360 degree views of the entire city. You'll take thousands of pictures and it will be an experience you will NEVER forget.

I will say that I have also heard that climbing the stairs to the top of the Duomo is equally as thrilling, but neither option is wheelchair friendly.

This is a don't miss stop when you visit Florence!

414 steps and 414 down - but worth every step. The views are awesome! You get a close up of Brunesechi's cathedral, an aerial view of the Baptistry and a\ perfect panorama of the city. Just beware that the ticket that allows you to go up lasts 24 hours from 1st use, and includes the Dome and Baptistry (amazing) as well as Santa Reparata, under the Cathedral. The only problem is that the people who run it seem to enjoy closing without warning, and several of these attractions are not open on a Sunday!

It was a perfect experience at all. To see is amazing but you will want to climb to the top. Actually you must be sure you don't have any heart disease, you are athletic enough, you are not claustrophobic at all. It is 414 steps to the top with very narrow corridors. The price is 10 € for the tickets that allows you to see bell tower, dome of cathedral, baptistery and museum within 24 hours. I can suggest to make some research or have a guided tour to notice the art history on the walls.

I was in Florence on Boxing Day so the Dome in the nearby cathedral was closed. I was disappointed but the bell tower climb more than made up for it. An amazing view over the entire city of florence all the way to the mountains. Quite the climb though - be prepared!

Buy the ticket and climb to the top, it is scary in certain areas as you approach the top, but the view is spectacular !
