Great views, see all of Florence. The climb to the top is arduous for a fat 70 year old tourist. The views are spectacular. I bought the museum pass ticket. That got me into the excavations under the Duomo, (there's a whole other church down there!), the baptistery, The Campanella, and the Opera de Fiori museum, and the Dome A great bargain. The trip to the top of the Dome was a similar number of steps for the same views so I opted out of that. I took in everything else.. Plan for at least one half a day to see these sights adequately. More if you are a detail person.

Amazing views of Florence, def worth walking up all the stairs. We went on a clear, early evening and watched a great sunset.

It's a long hike up to the top, but worth it for the views the Duomo. You can purchase your combo ticket to the Campanile, Baptistery, and Dome here, too. I wouldn't suggest climbing the Dome and Campanile back-to-back, which is what my family and I did. It was great exercise, though.

There are a lot of stairs...so be ready to climb! The spaces can feel a bit cramped and tight, so possibly not a good adventure for those with serious claustrophobia. The nice thing about the climb is there are a couple stops where you can get out of the staircase to rest and look at the progress you have made so far. Once you reach the top, your jaw will drop. The view is stunning. I took advantage of the Florence Card which gave me access to several of the top tourist attractions in the area, so I didn't have to pay for this particular stop out of pocket. If you are going to be in Florence for more than a couple of days, I would recommend getting the Florence Card and putting it to good use. It is well worth the money.

If you pay 10 euros, you'll get access to all the attractions around the Duomo (tickets are available in the ground floor of the bell tower and downstairs in the cathedral [the cathedral itself is free to enter, but not the dome]). We didn't make it to the dome since the lines were too long, but there was no wait at all to go up the Campanile. Please note that you can only get up the bell tower via several series of stairs and the climb is intense. There are several levels with stopping points, also with views, but when you make it to the very top, you are rewarded with an outstanding view of Florence and it's surrounds. Do not miss this if you are able to make it all the way up.
