“Tiring but worth it”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

There are hundreds of steps, no lift and the stairs are quite narrow so you have to be careful when passing people but the views from the top are amazing and well worth the 6 euros you pay to go up there.

There is a gift shop at the bottom selling mostly the same stuff that is sold in almost every musseum and tourist site in Florence and there several terraces part way up where you can have a sit down and rest, but if you can, you should try and climb to the top where there is an enclosed walkway around the top and you can see all around and get great views of the city.

Climbing this tower takes a lot of effort and it can be difficult for people with heart problems, disabilities or general health issues. There is no wheelchair access to the tower so if you cannot walk, there is probably little you can do here. Those unsteady on their feet may have some difficulties but as long as you take it steady and rest where you can, it should be managable. I am 28, overweight and have asthma and for me it was a struggle but I made it all the way to the top so for most people it should be easy enough.

“Better than the other view”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

If the Cupola is downtown Florence's central focus, then Giotto's Bell Tower climb is a must: how else would you have a better view of the Cupola? Of course, if you have the time and stamina, climb both, Cupola and Tower.

“Brilliant views from the top....”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

The Bell Tower is next to the Duomo and is a freestanding structure, and gorgeous in its own right. The white and pink marble used in the Duomo are used here as well and the tower is one of the most attractive in italy.

Its something like 6 Euros to get to the top there are no lifts etc etc. We went in low season and the queues wen't too bad but the admission process is quite slow.

The stairways can get to be very narrow in places - barley able for 2 people to pass occasionally - but there are wider bits and corners for passing. Added to this there are 3 or 4 floors where one emerges onto open spaces where one can rest and get some piccies.

The top cosists of a small walkway around the edge of the top of the belltower - theres a safety grill and just enough space for 2 people to pass. the views are spectacular - of the Duomo, the City and the sourronding countryside. Worth the climb ? Certainly !

“The climb is worth it!”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

The walk up the bell tower was definitely tiring, but it was well worth the effort. Stopping at each floor and having a look over the city from different levels was exciting. Reaching the top was a triumph that is well rewarded with brilliant views. You can buy a ticket which allows you access to both the bell tower and duomo cathedral and it's climb which is well worth doing.

Great view of the Duomo from the bell-tower. Great views of the entire city from the top! I would highly recommend going up it! We had no wait time!
