Owner description: This synagogue, one of the largest in Europe, was built between 1874 and 1882 in eclectic Moresque style by architects Marco Treves, Mariano Falcini,Vincenzo Micheli. The museo was set up on 1982 in the same building to display ritual objects, dating from XVI to XX Centuries and documentation regarding the history of the community. This tour provides a very different view of Rome's history by telling us about the Jewish experience. The tour guide was excellent, providing us with a lot of background information.

Excellent tour of the synagogue, museum and Florence (by foot). Giovanna Rosenfeld has amazing knowledge of the history of the Jewish community. We are so glad we did this tour rather than the quick overview type you often find. It is clear she has a lot of passion for the art and architecture of this fabulous city, and we learned so much in the 2+ hours we spent together.

While certainly not as opulent or beautiful as the majority of the numerous
Catholic churches in the city it was very meaningful to visit this synagogue
and the nearby Jewish delis and restaurants. I did not visit the museum.

You get that "oh my" experience when you walk into the main sanctuary. Truly awe inspiring. Glad to see a synagogue in Florence as beautiful inside and out as the local churches. Small, but interesting museum upstairs as well with all the artifact displays captioned in english. Was happy to see a Hebrew School class in session as well. Right next door is a kosher vegetarian restaurant and down the block is a Chabad House. The area is a bit of a walk to get to on the northwest side of town, have a good map.
