“Hidden away but amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2013

Fantastic interior, though it looks unassuming / unexciting from the inside. Wonderful precisely because it is so hidden away. Actually loved this place a lot more than some of the more famous (and therefore more crowded) basilicas/ chiesas around Florence. The inside had much more stunning artwork than, for instance, the Duomo

“Beautiful Interior”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2013

The Church of the Santissima Annunziata is worth seeing. The interior is beautiful and there is plenty of art. I especially enjoyed seeing the frescoes on the walls. The golden ceiling was decorated between 1664 and 1670 to a design by Baldasarre Franceschini, known as Volterrano. There are several sculptures that are also very good.

“A hidden jewel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2013 via mobile

At the Northeastern side of the piazza lies this gem. The piazza is out of the way, at the end ov Via de Servi, with only one small hotel and sandwich shop on one corner. This is a local church, a medium size cathedral that has many wonderful chapels lining the aisles, with frescoes and statuary. As in most churches you enter at the rear of the main aisle, and to your left is an amazing chapel used for weddings and ceremonies which is beyond words. The frescoes out front are being restored now and with some TLC this church could be one of Florences great attractions.

“Worth visiting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

The Basilica of the Annunciation is my favorite church.
I accidentally visited with my friends and we were amazed by this ancient beauty, introduced in church.
Most remarkable are the frescoes that decorate the walls, made to narrate the life of the Virgin
The church is very rich of decorations. For me the most striking is the beautiful baroque decoration visible in the ceiling of Volterra and lots of marble, stucco and gilding.
This is a lovely church in which spiritual power is present everywhere.
Worth visiting!!!

This is absolutely my favorite church in Firenze. Many years ago I lived on Via della Pergola and this was my parish church. I remember being invited to a parish dinner and meeting the Mayor of Firenze!!!
