Fee: No
Recommended length of visit: <1 hour
Owner description: This 19th century piazza has undoubtedly the best panoramic view of Florence. The square is decorated with copies of Michelangelo's sculptures, but it's the view people come here to see.

We were fortunate enough to watch a beautiful sunset in the most amazing setting. Buy a bottle of wine and bring some food and watch the sunset and wonder in the beauty that is florence

This is by far the best comprehensive overall view of Florence anywhere. We took a lot of photos which became our "virtual postcards" to send home to family and friends. We went in the daylight, but evening at sunset would also be beautiful. We walked, but be aware that it is a long uphill walk with a lot of stairs. Plan to bring water and take breaks if you need, but know that when you reach the top, the breathtaking view of Florence unfolding below you will make it all worth it. You can also reach the area by city bus and the hop on hop off bus. There are restaurants, souvenir stands, and stands selling gelato etc. up there as well. Florence was once a walled city and during the walk up and down from this Piazzale, we got the see part of the original wall that remains. The view is totally worth it.

If you're going to visit Florence, then you need to visit this spot overlooking the city. The walk is by no means difficult, and the view with the sun setting from here is epic. However, don't expect to be the only people up there as on our visit there was a spinning class and lots of people up there with the same idea as us; this isn't a complaint but I did initially go up there expecting a quiet place to propose (probably should have done my research!). There's also a restaurant at the top that was recommended by our hotel, but we chose not to eat there in the end.

Thank oneece

There is a bus. We found this out when we reached the TOP of the really steep steps. Take the bus UP. The panoramic views of Florence are unmatched no matter what time of day!! Then walk down the stairs and along the Arno back to the business of Florence.

It's a small climb but it is definately worth the view. Once you've reached the square you're treated to a nice view over Florence.
