Owner description: This 19th century piazza has undoubtedly the best panoramic view of Florence. The square is decorated with copies of Michelangelo's sculptures, but it's the view people come here to see.

“Big Parking Lot on a Hill, with a View”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

Wish this were a park! Instead, it's a big parking lot on a hill, with a big copy of the statue of David, an expansive view of the city, and some venders of fast food and sovenirs. The parking lot will be packed with cars and buses. If it's cold in town, it will be windier and colder on the hill. I gave it three stars because of the view and the access to the church farther up the hill.

Bus 13 leaves from the train station and goes clockwise around town, over a bridge, and up to Piazzale Michelangelo before coming back down, going over a different bridge, and returning to the train station. It's a free sightseeing ride if you have the Firenze Card!

Short bus ride to the piazzale, great place for photos. Tons of cheesy souvenir vendors, but if you need small gifts, good place to buy them. We didn't do this, but apparently it's possible to rent bikes and bike up there, which would be fun. Take a rain poncho if traveling in March.

“Best view and a hike”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

be sure to wear walking shoes to hike up to the Piazzale. The north side of Florence speads out like a tapestry. Even though it was cloudy, the best unobstructed view. We saw a family pushing a stroller up, not a good idea. We did not walk over to the monestary due to the weather, but something for our next trip.

“great views”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

views of the city and a nice walk - a statute and just before the walk up there are some lovely cute Italian cafes - its a steep hill though, so wear your flat shoes.
