“Home of one of the most important families”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

Consider that the Medici family was one of the most important in European history due to their role in developing banking and how they invested in culture that still is seen as game changing. And that we 500 years later from all over the world come in millions to enjoy and be surprised by the quality of work due to the standards set by several of the Medici family. Their former home is interesting itself, but it also holds some interesting contributions from the family Riccardi (also bankers) buying the house from the Medicis. The Magi Chapel is a gem (from the Medici era), the frescoes are awesome as is the small altarpiece. There is a wonderful work by Fillipo Lippi and the paintings in the ceiling in the golden room from the Riccardi epoque can be looked on for an hour.

“The Magi chapel is stunning”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

The main attraction here is the private chapel painted by Benozzo Gozzoli for the Medici family. In this small but lavish room you feel as if Cosimo de' Medici might limp in any moment. The frescoes are sumptuous, full of detail - the entourage of the Magi, all gorgeously dressed, are wending their way toward that star, past a landscape filled with fairy-tale castles, hunters, birds of prey, etc. The Magi are said to be portraits of Cosimo, Piero & Lorenzo de' Medici, but they are not; there are actual portraits of these historical figures within the fabric of the frescoes, in the crowds. I think you're only supposed to spend a certain amount of time in the chapel, but the guard let me hang out as long as I wanted. There's also an impressive late Baroque ceiling fresco by Luca Giordano and a lovely Lippi madonna. And you're in the building the Medici lived in. Wow.

“Too pricy but interesting anyway”
Reviewed January 15, 2013 via mobile

the palace is not the first thing you should see in florence. The palace is full of statues and furniture used by the Medici family. This did not really raised our interest. I think the price is too expensive (8 EUR) for the visit and also the building is used by local governement so, is full of places where you cannot go in.

Very nice to see! Great to see the paintings, sculpture and all the antique in this palace. The golden room with gigantic painting on ceiling is truly magnificent! A must see when in Florence!

“Chapel of the Magi”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

The small chapel in the building is a good to see. The site is also next to the tourist information centre. Worth the visit if you have the Firenze Card.
