Of all the hotels and B&B's I stayed at during my 3-week trip in Italy, this property did not have the highest 'charm' quotient, but that aside, I would say that it was great value for money and more than anything else the location (a stone's throw from the train station and close to the Duomo) was perfect!! For this alone; Palazzo Vecchio deserves a 4-star Tripadvisor rating.

A short walk across the street from the station (where transfer buses which run direct to and from the airport - very convenient! - also depart and arrive) is all it takes to get to the hotel. Our room was spacious with a well-appointed bath and small fridge. Although in close proximity to the station, there was no disturbance from any street noise and in all the hotel was comfortable enough for a good night's rest. During our stay in September 2011, the air-conditioning tripped for a night - it wasn't hot but rather stuffy. The staff was extremely apologetic (they said the system was rather old, although the hotel had been recently rebranded) and it was up and running the next day.

In room wi-fi internet is a bit dodgy but they do have a computer terminal in the lobby (pay to use) and the friendly reception staff will help with print-outs if required.

The continental breakfast was not particularly outstanding, but similar to what we had in other B&B's in Italy.

Being close to the Duomo, it was great to easily walk around the historic parts of the city while also being in the proximity of the train station for easy trips to Pisa (half-day is enough) and Sienna (if you also want to visit San Gimignano, then maybe a bus tour is easier/ more convenient than trying to use local transport). Hop-on-hop-of bus tours of the city and tour buses to the Tuscan countryside are also very conveniently available nearby.

Tips:
1) The gentleman who runs the little kiosk for books & magazines just outside the train station is extremely helpful and also sells tour bus tickets.
2) If interested, book the Uffizi and Accademia galleries (Michaelangelo's 'David' is a 'must see') in advance on the official websites (much cheaper than buying from a reseller),
3) It's worth looking up for restaurant recommendations in advance as most of the eating places around the city centre are very touristy and just okay.
4) If you have the enegry and enthusiasm (and aren't claustrophobic), you must try climbing all the way to the top of the Duomo - the views of Florence are simply stunning!!

This was our first time in Florence and this hotel really worked out for us. It was walking distance from the train station which was super convenient. It also had complimentary breakfast which wasn't that great- but was fine. It also came with a small refrigerator which we stocked with deli meat and saved money on lunches. Wifi was free and everything was walking distance- which was FANTASTIC! The staff were quite friendly and very helpful. The room and bathroom were just outdated. This place is not fancy by any means but if you're there just to take in the sites and not to spend a ton of time in a hotel then this place is absolutley perfect. I would definitely stay here again.

We arrived in Florence for 3 nights. Palazzo Vecchio Hotel was perfect for us. The bed is semi-hard but accomodating. Breakfast was cold foods, but plentiful and delicius, wifi free and with excellent coverage. The location is excelent, everything is within esy walking distance. All staff are very friendly and speak excellent english. I would happily recommend this hotel and would definitely head back there if in Florence again.

This hotel is ok, but I would look for a better option next time I visit Florence. This hotel is convenient to the train station which is good and about 15 minutes to the airport via taxi. We arrived there on December 27th and could not check in, the entire hotel was closed (presumably for the Christmas holiday) until 2:00 pm. We arrived at noon and had to sit outside the hotel on the street, we could really go anywhere and come back since we had our large suitcases with us. The hotel room was very outdated, the room was a decent size but the bathroom was alwats wet since there was no real bathtub. Just a shower head and a drain on the floor, so of course the water went everywhere. Our room was also very cold. The room did not have it's own thermostat, so we couldn't do anything about the temperature. The housekeeper took our towels (which they only gave us 2 in the first place) and did not give us any fresh ones. Thew breakfast here was also not very good. Canned fruit only- no fresh fruit, a few sad looking pastries, yogurt, juice, meat, & cheese. Stay here if you hae to, but try to find a better option if you can.

During the high season, finding this hotel was pleasant for us. Actually the hotel gets no more than 3* but the best advantage is it's location, which is just 5 min walk from the train station & close to tourist attractions.
Lobby & entrance are not so welcoming. They need basic renovations. However our room was in a better condition. It was clean with adequate necessities. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was clean although not very roomy. View from the balcony was nice. Room's lighting was not enough during the night.
Internet in the room was not so fast.
The other thing which we didn't like about this hotel was the breakfast. It was very very basic.
Totally it was OK however a little expensive for the type of service they offer.
