“Great location for main sites”
Reviewed September 24, 2013 via mobile

This was a lovely hotel on the most expensive street in Florence!
Room 306 was lovely and big and there was hardly any noise from street but there was a a lot of noise from up above. There is a lovely roof Terrence upstairs for breakfast and a place for pics too. Breakfast was adequate, lots of packed things to take away which was perfect on my tours.
Location wise, it's fab, walking distance to everything yet a little away from the main crowds, I would definitely go back here without hesitation. Thy staff spoke English and were a great help. Well done!

Our family of 5 spent 2 nites (in two rooms) at this hotel during our July trip to Italy. This was our favorite hotel of the trip. The hotel is old and it is showing its age, but I tend to like older hotels with a little character, as long as they are clean and the service is good; this one delivered on both.

The location of the hotel was wonderful. We took a cab to the hotel from the train station when we first arrived, not because of distance, but because we couldn’t find the hotel. (*see below.) After that, we were able to walk to everything we wanted to see and do.The hotel is on a street with a lot of retails shops, so shopping is literally at your doorstep. There are many options for food available nearby. Noise was not a problem. (*General suggestion-don’t count on your usual AT&T cell phone app for directions while in Italy. The GPS/map program with our International Data package didn’t play well with the Italian system and was completely useless most of the time that we were there. On our last day in the country, some other guests from the US told us about an app specifically for Italy that they had learned about late in their trip. I don’t remember the name but if you are counting on using your phone for directions, I would look into it before you get to Italy and need it.)

As stated above, our family had two rooms. We arrived early and were allowed to check in, which was wonderful. Our room was in the main building. Our kids had a room on the same floor, but it was quite a distance from our room and to get to it, you wandered down, around, up, over…..definitely ask for directions or have someone from the desk escort you to your room the first time. Our room was large, even by US hotel standards. It was furnished with antiques, had a spacious sitting area, and a stocked mini-bar. The bathroom was a little small (long and narrow) but was clean and had what we needed. The air conditioning was great for beating the July heat; it kept the room cool and comfortable for us.

The halls have antiques and sitting areas scattered. The bar and the breakfast room were on the same floor as the terrace. As mentioned in other reviews, the terrace was beautiful. Shady, flowers everywhere, and lovely views of the rooftops of Florence and mountains in the distance. Stop by and enjoy breakfast on the terrace and return in the evening or after dark for another beautiful view. (Warning: don’t leave food unattended, or you’ll think you’ve stumbled into an Alfred Hitchcock movie. Pigeons are a little too comfortable with the whole arrangement and will gladly take care of your breakfast should you step away.)

Breakfast was the typical Italian breakfast. Not spectacular, but enough to start your day.

Staff was friendly, courteous and helpful.

We enjoyed our stay here. It’s not flashy or modern but it is in a great location; it’s clean, the service is good and you will be getting a little of the historical feel of Florence just from staying here.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in the beginning of August, and we could not be more satisfied with the stay. Our room was beautifully furnished, clean and quiet, in addition to a cool break from the hot climate outside. We enjoyed at several occasions a drink on the beautiful roof terrace, and no matter if it were a glass of wine, cappuccino or a delicious Bellini, the staff were eager to give us good service, always accompanied with some snacks and a smile. At all of the occasions we asked the staff about something, whether it was to book a table for us at Harry's Bar, call a taxi or store our luggage, this was not at all a problem for them. I have read some reviewers who are dissatisfied with the breakfast, and to them I can only say that you can't really expect a huge continental breakfast buffet for free in Italy, as Italians barely eat breakfast. Also, I noticed some other guests complaining about the service, but to be honest, these guests were incredibly rude to the staff, and I don't think you can walk around acting rude to people, and then expect good service back. I can't say I understand the poor reviews this hotel has gotten, as we were so happy with our stay that if we ever return to Florence, we won't hesitate to book this hotel again, as the location, service and rooms were some of the best we have ever had in our many travels to Italy.

Situated on the smartest shopping street in Florence close to all the attractions, this hotel makes a great place to stay. There are other much smarter hotels but this one retains some atmosphere of a quieter age whilst still having good bathrooms, hot water and air con. There is also a roof terrace where you can breakfast overlooking the rooftops.

I stayed in Florence 5 nights, from 31/7 to 5/8 2013. Appearance didn't care much for, I initially picked this hotel because it had free wi-fi. The AC did not properly work, even though it read 16 degrees celcius, but definitely did not feel like it. Outside temperature was 38-41 celcius. Costumer service shines for its absence. Having them call to verify a time for a tour in Venice that had to be done 4 days in advance apparently was too much to ask of them since they didnt want to do that for us. They wanted us to call and have them charge us because Venice is considered a long distance call. After making them make the call, which was a constant argument, they made the call and the help desk had the audacity of telling us " you know, they speak english, you can make the call" we had about had it, because we were not going to have them charge us extra for a service they can certainly provide free of charge to us. Not only that, they did my laundry, nothing much just 4 pants and 5 blouses/shirts, they were suppose to leave it in the room on a said day, they did not, I called them to find out where my clothes were, they had it in the lobby, at this point I was pretty exasperated, so i told them to give me the clothes i'll take it myself to my room, only to find out they gave me other people's clothes and one of my pants missing. After i confronted the issue with the front desk, they took the other person's clothes and ask ME to describe the pants i had them take to dry clean. After two days of constant " did you find my pants" on the third day, I had finally gotten them back. Lack of costumer service, incompetence, breakfast could be better and the fact that the tv was on top of the fridge disappointing, total lack of design for the money charged, it was not a 4 star hotel but rather a 2. Never again will i stay there, and will definitely deter any person i know to not stay there either.

Wonderful hotel - great location. The employees were very helpful and polite. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace was like a scene from a movie. Our rooms were very large as were the bathrooms. Would highly recommend - while in the city, very little noise outside.

my fiance and i really liked the hotel! the staff service was very good, and the location was great! definitely a good value for the money. breakfast was also good. the hotel is dated and does need some updating. they also have awesome showers with great water pressure! the rooms were very big and comfortable. this hotel can easily become a 5 star with a few updates/touch-ups. the wifi was a little weak, but did the job. i would recommend and stay here again.
