Best value for the location in my mind!
We were greeted by the effervescent Monti - what a wonderful person! He made me smile or laugh every time I saw him. Friendly cannot accurately describe Monti - and the rest of the staff are almost as equally friendly :)
We stayed here for 4 nights and absolutely loved this quirky little place with all its little nooks and crannies. Keep in mind it is a budget hotel, with simple furnishings and decor, but it is very clean which is very important to me.
We were pleasantly surprised how large our room was (room 16B). The room was adjacent to a shared bath and unfortunately, we could hear the door closing quite loudly every time someone used the washroom. Maybe a sign on the door requesting people to "close the door softly for the comfort of other guests" might help.
Loved the cheerful breakfast room (I wished these colors were in the rest of the hotel). Breakfast was sufficient and coffee was served very efficiently and to your liking.
As mentioned in previous posts, there are plenty of stairs and this did not bother us - but it may some.
We were considering a wine tour and Andrea recommended a company called "MyTours" and booked the reservation for us. We were very impressed with the tour company!
I would definitely stay here again

We hope that all our staff are as friendly as Monti, they perhaps are just a little "less effervescent" in their friendliness! Monti is one of a kind and we are proud to have him, and all our other team members, working with us at the Hotel Alessandra. We read your review carefully and noted all points - thank you so much for taking the time to tell us.

We spent four nights here while in Florence last week. We chose the hotel for a couple of reasons - the location is perfect; adjacent to the Ponte Vecchio and a stone's throw to the Uffizi and all other major sites, yet on a quiet side street. I also liked that the staff took the time to answer the Tripadvisor reviews. That says they are interested in feedback. It showed in their customer service. The staff was super helpful. Andrea and the bellman were both very efficient. We wanted to tour the Uffizi and the Academia, but didn't have reservations. Upon check in, Andrea made a quick phone call and we had reservations for both that suited our schedule perfectly.

The treat of the visit I think was the gregarious bell man. An older gentleman, he was so much fun to talk with. He made you feel welcome and part of the family. I am sorry we didn't get a chance to say good-bye as we had to check out too early.

As others have noted, the hotel entrance is on the second story, or third floor. You have to walk up one floor of stone stairs until you get to the tiny elevator. We needed two trips in the elevator to get our bags up to the hotel entrance. While we were checking in and the bell man was showing us the hotel area, Andrea had taken our bags up another flight of stairs to our room.

Our room was a triple, with two singles joined to make a King and another single in a sort of day-bed configuration. The room was spacious with a large armoire, some drawer space, a desk, chairs and plenty of room for the suitcases. The bathroom was good, but a little small and would have been nice to have some more shelf space, but no big complaint. Large towels were also very nice. We had a window that overlooked an interesting courtyard and the room was very quiet from the outside. You could hear some inside noise, but nothing really disturbing. One of the best things was the efficient air conditioning. It was a real treat to come back to a refreshingly cool room after a long day in the Tuscan sun. Beds were comfy and overall the accommodation was just what we wanted.

As I said, the location was perfect, along a small side street one removed from the river and next to the Ponte Vecchio. We walked everywhere from the hotel as it was right in the center. We needed to do laundry and Andrea recommended a place close to the train station that charges by the load. They don't fold, but it was reasonably priced and was ready the next morning. We took a taxi from the station as it would have been a long walk with all our stuff. If you just have a carry on, you could probably walk it on a cool day.

In summary, it was a great, charming little hotel in an awesome location with an excellent, helpful and friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again if I get the chance.

Room Tip: Don't get put off by the entrance or the stairs. Inside is a gem. My son and I usually walked th...

How could we not be interested in your feedback? In those long-ago pre-feedback days we never ever got to learn half the things that we learn now (the good and the bad!) and it is the air we breathe now. That said, we also have had to learn we can't be perfect for all of the people all of the time, but we worked out just fine for you, and we are really happy about that.

My wife and I spent a week in Florence and stayed at Hotel Alessandra. The location of the hotel is perfect for Museums, landmarks and restaurants. The staff's assistance did not end when we flew back to the states. We had a miss-understanding with a wine store near the hotel. A month after we arrived back home, the hotel staff went down the street and helped us communicate with the wine store. What was otherwise a "lost in translation" moment, turned out to be a complete success. Now, that's service!

Room Tip: We had a room upstairs with a view of the Duomo. Wonderful place.

Overall, we enjoyed a very nice experience at Hotel Alessandra. Location can not be beat, steps away from Ponte Vecchio and a few blocks from Duomo and the Uffizi. Driving up to the hotel is a little tricky due to the one way streets and limited entry streets so don't bother with a GPS - just call the hotel and ask for directions. Once there, parking is handled by a pickup service.

The staff was friendly and helpful and someone was always around even late at night or early in the morning (not always the case in the other hotels we stayed at in Italy). Rooms, while showing a little age, are large and clean with good air conditioning and excellent wifi. Of course there are the steps as mentioned in many of the reviews - not much of a problem for us but it was an issue for my mom and dad. Breakfast was typical for Italy - selection was limited but quality was good and the dining area is larger than most hotels this size.

Two great points!

DON'T bring a car to Florence. Just don't. It can ruin marriages/friendships/business relations. Just don't.

We are NOT a hotel for everyone. We have stairs. Lots. We are wonderful, great service, an excellent location. But if you knees are going to go wobbly we are not for you. That said, if you have some extra pounds to lose ......

We loved reading this - thank you.

We had some confusion regarding how many rooms we had reserved when we arrived. Neither Andrea (owner) nor I would be willing to admit at this point who was right. But, the issue was resolved to our satisfaction. Now, let me be clear about something; if you're looking for a Fairmont or Four Seasons experience this is not the place for you. A number of people have given low marks for the walk up the stairs to get to the lift (it's not an elevator, trust me). I wouldn't argue that point but I think it's a little exaggerated as a criticism. Florence turned really hot the day after we arrived and each day was brutally hot (over 90 degrees). Luckily, the Alessandra had maybe the best air conditioner we had in our two weeks in Italy. And the lift people have been prone to criticize was a welcome sight at the end of a hot day. Breakfast was very good, although typical of what we found in various cities. Our room was comfortable. Beds and pillows nice. Bathroom was really good. Monti at the front desk was quite the ambassador, very helpful, informative and knowledgeable. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. Again don't expect the Ritz.....you're not paying Ritz prices. I would stay here again if the opportunity arises.

No we are not the Ritz! Nor do we intend to be. We are very very exclusively "us"! With lots of stairs, a miniscule lift, massive rooms, amazing Monti + incredible staff. Oh, did we mention the location. We think we are pretty unique!

Alessandra is well situated and extremely warm and welcoming. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are deluxe. Morning breakfast was served with whatever designer cafe we wanted (which was cappuccino). Our experience was excellent overall. A minor detraction would be the number of stairs to climb to get to the lobby, and perhaps older/harder beds. But minor things. Make sure you take advantage of the patio in the evening to share some wine with hotel mates!

Hmmm. Old and hard! Well about our stairs you are totally right! About 500 years and in the local "pietra serena" stone - grey, smooth and hard (and yes, lots of them!). But our beds? Well this is an intercontintal difference! Our mattresses were all new in winter 2012/2013 (so not so old). But us Europeans like a hard base! We know that northern Americans like a much softer lie. There are probably lots of things that could be said about that!!

Our family run hotel is right in the heart of Florence old town - near to the Uffizi Gallery and Ponte Vecchio.
