We stayed at Hotel Alessandra for 4 nights, during our trip to Italy. Overall, the experience was a good one, although there are some pros and cons.
Pros:
- Excellent location - The hotel is a few blocks from the Ponte Vecchio and is an easy walk to the Uffizi, Duomo, and other major sites. The location was perfect for us. We even walked to the hotel from the train station (about 10 minute walk)
- Clean, spacious room - This was one of the largest rooms we stayed in during our trip to Italy and Germany and the hotel was very clean.
- Friendly staff - The staff was very courteous and helpful. They offered suggestions about where to find a laundromat and helped me make a call to a local tour company.
- Tasty breakfast - They offered a complimentary breakfast, including great pastries.
- Reasonably priced

Cons:
- You must walk up quite a few stairs (about 1 flight) even before getting to an elevator. If you have difficulty with stairs or extremely heavy luggage, this could be a problem for you.
- Noisy room - This may not be a problem in most of the rooms, since ours seemed to be off a side hallway away from many of the other rooms, but ours was quite noisy. We stayed in room #24 on the side of the building overlooking an alleyway. The noise seemed to be coming from some sort of restaurant outside (although we couldn't get a good look). Overall, we had a good experience with the room, but the noise was a negative.

Room Tip: We stayed in room #24 on the side of the building overlooking an alleyway, and the room was noisy du...

Absolutely a fair review. We have lots of different views (streets, side alleys, a cut of the Arno river!) and each is different. Some of guests love the sounds of life on the streets, some adore the church bell on the other side, some appreciate the quiet of the side alleys. Thanks for writing with such objective detail - this will surely help some other trippers with their choice!

Great little hotel. Nothing luxurious but amazing location, everything clean, tasty breakfast, super staff. Only negative is the stair access so not good for families. You will not regret staying here!

Short and sweet ;-) Spot on, we are two star and are not swish and swank, with lots of great stairs for working off ice cream debts on. All included in the price. Read about our stairs and see pictures on our facebook page. Thanks so much for taking the time to write - we do appreciate it.

Located in an old palace of the middle of the town, clean and with a very friendly personnel always prepared to provide advises and, services like to book museums and very nice restaurants. Good breakfast to start the day. My wife went there many years ago with her friends and the level did not change.

Nice to know that we managed to keep the same yet changing all the time! Hopefully your wife noticed a difference or two since her last stay at least structurally! Glad it worked for you - that is always good news. And thank you so much for taking the time to comment.

We spent only 2 nights in this very warm & inviting hotel & wish it could have been longer !! We had a lovely suite which overlooked the Arno river and it was very comfortable for our family of 4 . Monti was just as expected , full of life & so welcoming - making restaurant recommendations and reservations that were spot on . Location is superb and we could easily walk to anywhere, never had to take a cab , which after Rome was soo nice . My girls and I especially loved our 'smiley face ' cappuccinos in the morning .
We felt that the entire staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome ! We will definitely be back !!

The location was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. They upgraded our room for no charge as there was another room available. The room was spacious and overlooked the Arno River. The breakfast was not fancy, but had all the basics we wanted plus some nice baked items. There are quite a few steps to climb - my husband took the elevator with our luggage and I walked up - not a problem for us at all. I would definitely stay here again.

The Alessandra is a very nice hotel. The only negatives that we found were the long (and rather smelly) stairs you have to climb to get into the hotel – 83, 55 of which you can by-pass by taking the tiny lift, which was just big enough for us and our limited luggage. There are a further 27 steps to the main accommodation floor, with no lift.

Apart from this, most things were really good. Our room was large, warm (this was November and it was very cold outside) clean and comfortable. The staff – mostly on the front desk – were very helpful, with Monti in particular giving many useful restaurant recommendations. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom a useful size.

Breakfasts were fairly basic but OK – yoghurts, tinned fruit and prunes, a limited selection of cereals, toast (if you can wait while the bread goes through 3 or 4 times), cheese and prosciutto crudo, hard-boiled eggs, plus coffee and some pastries. This was normally fine to keep us going until lunchtime.

The location is excellent, on a tiny street very near the river. From our bedroom we could see the dome of the Duomo. The hotel is less than 2 minutes’ walk from the Ponte Vecchio, and only slightly further from the Piazza de la Signoria with the Palazzo Vecchio and the Uffizi gallery. The Duomo is about 10 minutes’ easy walk away. We walked everywhere in the Centro Storico, out as far as the Piazzale Michelangelo in the South East and Santa Maria Novella in the North West. There is very little traffic in the city centre, and everywhere felt safe, though there were more beggars that we’d expected.

The weather was unexpectedly good while we were there, with torrential rain on the evening we arrived and then largely blue skies for the rest of the time. It’s well worth the walk up to Piazzale Michelangelo (or ‘Michelangiolo’ on the road signs) to see the sunset views.

All in all, a very good hotel with friendly and helpful staff, in a great location and at a very reasonable price.

Room Tip: It's well worth upgrading to a junior suite - the room was a good size and the view of the Duomo...

Sir, you are terrifyingly accurate! Your step counts and distance in minutes are spot on! We are super-vocal about our stairs - both here and on our facebook and G+ pages, and rather than a negative we consider them a free work-out that justifies extra pasta and icecream - but that's just our point of view!

Learned about this hotel from fellow travelers we met in Milan. So we decided to give it a try. WOW !
We walked from the train station using our tiny GPS and found it with ease. This hotel is well worth the walk, even in the rain.
Extremely friendly staff who handled our bags and provided expert recommendations for meals and tourist activities. Good clean rooms, large bath, fine breakfast. Lots of small shops for food, beer and wine nearby. And, an Irish Pub only a few twists and turns away.
We also went to Gusta Pizza and it was super.
Were directed to a Brew Pub and Restaurant called il bovaro just outside, the old city wall's huge gate. This is a definite "go back to". Be sure to try the green beer if you go. It's about a 20 minute walk down river and across the bridge.
