“Friendly, well-located, definitely budget”
Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

A really great location. Florence is a walking city and this hotel is in a perfect spot to access all the sites. The hotel itself is definitely budget priced and it shows. The rooms are a little tired and not super clean. Breakfast is meh. Keep your windows closed because there are a lot of Mosquitos around. Staff are all super friendly and helpful, all lovely people, although I did get some inaccurate advice about opening times. I probably wouldn't go back because I would prefer to have nicer rooms.

Definitely the best hotel I stayed in(!), due to the familial atmosphere, wonderful staff, comfortable rooms, best location and a great breakfast. Although not a fancy one, with many stairs and a tinny lift, the attitude is so warm and pleasant, that you really don't care.
The decor is homely and full of character, the staff are particularly helpful and it feels intimate: a home away from home!

What we needed in February was a warm friendly and secure hotel - we got that at the Alessandra. From the start the staff could not have been more helpful and that always makes for a good break. Yes there were stairs to climb, but it keeps you fit! Rooms were spacious and warm, not super-modern but characterful and pleasant. Breakfast room seemed sunny even with clouds and rain outside and breakfast offering was more than adequate. A little haven on a very cold weekend. Will certainly go back. Thanks very much.

Anyone who is not seriously claustrophobic should have this hotel on their short list.
Staying at the Hotel Alessandra is an entertaining experience and a fun part of a recreational holiday, or in my case a working holiday.
By the way, the claustrophobic bit is for the lift, it is averagely small for old Italy (or Paris or...), but with a kink in the middle that makes it seem even smaller. Like many hotels in the area reception and the hotel rooms are not on the ground floor.
The location is brilliant. A hop step and a jump away from the Pontivecchio and a triple jump from lots of other touristy things.
I really enjoyed my stay here - the people were fun, chatty and put up with my rubbish Italian. Breakfasts were good and the overall vibe of the place is welcoming.

Oh we loved your Italian! Yeah our lift is kind of "compromised" but you have to admire the engineers who got it into such a small space. For anyone who doesn't want to use the lift we are happy to lug your very heavy luggage (what do you people pack??) up and downstairs - no problem. Thank you so much for your review - we enjoyed reading it.

This hotel is no palace and the room we stayed in did not look anything like the photos on Hotel's website. Out of the seven places we stayed at during our three weeks in Italy, this was definitely the worst hotel. The rooms were OK (clean at least) but there was no air-conditioning and poor ventilation, which can be quite a pain in July. Breakfast was terrible and breakfast area was so stuffy and hot that it was difficult to sit and eat there without sweating buckets. Lastly, the hotel itself has no sign outside, you have to go up a flight of stairs and then cram yourself into a tiny scary noisy elevator to finally reach the front desk.
With that said, front desk staff was decent and location is not so bad!

Dear Guest,

First of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to write about our hotel. We are always glad to hear from our guests. Positive and negative comments enable us to improve our services.

Photos on the site ARE of course of our rooms, and we have literally just finished a new collection of photos which will go onto our new site to be launched in just a few weeks. We are often commended on the cleanliness of the hotel in general and it's also a point of special focus for our staff. Our air-con is a good quality system, and we began the job of replacing each single unit this winter and as I write have now replaced half the older machines with new, efficient eco-friendly ones. Breakfast generally receives positive feedback and is an aspect of our services we try to improve each season (different nationalities have different tastes!). We frequently post photos of the sign outside our door on our facebook page (you can check!) and on the home page of our site, There are extremely tight restrictions on a building dated 1507 in the historic centre of Florence regards what you can post on the wall outside, and big flashing neon signs are NOT allowed. Yes we have stairs, and we regularly talk about them both on tripadvisor and facebook. Hiding the fact wouldn't be very smart - just check the other posts here on tripadvisor! The staff is hard working and we are proud of them and the feedback we receive from guests.

We are sorry that we weren't right for you, and that we obviously didn't match the expectations that you had.

Kind regards - Andrea Gennarini

The overwhelmingly positive response in these reviews is well-deserved. I think the only original compliment I can pay to Andrea and his excellent staff is this:

The Hotel Alessandra family are citizens of Florence of the highest virtue. Their sincerity towards me, the way in which they took care of me during my stay, is something I'll not forget. Andrea and Monti made sure my comfort was always at its maximum best.

Their advice for restaurants was spot-on; someone I had met with no relationship to the Hotel confirmed that their restaurant recommendations were honest and straight-forward. They made me feel like a visiting cousin from another country. If I complain that they failed to teach me the language well,...that is my fault and not theirs!

I am much indebted to the people of Hotel Alessandra for my very happy 8-day stay in Florence. A big, big thank-you to all!

Room Tip: Room 7 was superb for a single person. Tall ceilings, excellent bathroom, nicely furnished. The end...

Our family run hotel is right in the heart of Florence old town - near to the Uffizi Gallery and Ponte Vecchio. Without doubt, Hotel Alessandra is one of the most centrally located hotels in Florence. In this privileged position, Hotel Alessandra offers a home away from home, with our friendly team and extensive knowledge of the local area.
