Fabulous location and beautiful spacious rooms and baths. The front desk professionals were helpful and friendly. This is a charming hotel will tall ceilings, large rooms, antique furniture, and hardwood floors. We had the Junior Suite overlooking the Arno (well, it had a view of the Arno) and for awhile we had the Junior Suite with the Balcony with the view of the Arno. Nothing is more than a 5 or 10 minute walk from the hotel.

Hotel Alessandra is a very comfortable, reasonably priced hotel to stay while visiting Florence. Steps from the Ponte Vecchio, the hotel is convenient to many restaurants and sites. It's on a rather quiet street. You must go up a flight of steps before getting to the elevator, (teeny tiny) and then have the possibility of going up or down more steps. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff at Hotel Alessandra is extremely helpful. I would recommend this hotel for people who are not turned off by small bathrooms, and steps. Although not a 3 star hotel, served our purpose in Florence.

Something amazing happened when I stayed at Hotel Alessandra recently in late Oct 2007: my single room with bathroom got upgraded (for free) to a huge, beautiful suite with awesome views of the Arno River and Ponte Vecchio! How lucky could I be! I couldn't believe it: there were four parts to the massive and tastefully decorated suite with living/reading room, king sized bed, large antique wooden full length mirror, marble bathroom, persian carpets, a study alcove, terraza -and it seemed like i was right on the water! Needless to say, I was over the moon. The location of the hotel is fantastic and handy to all sights in the day time and for taking a stroll over the scenic ponte in the evenings. The hotel staff, Andrea and his sister, who speak v good English, plus the ever so friendly porter (also named Andrea, I think), made me feel like one of the family. The building itself is historic and lovely, with a quaint antique elevator which i so enjoyed using, and the breakfast was more than ample. I will definitely be back! (I am from NZ and Singapore)

The hotel is ideally located for the sights AND it is quiet. ( our room was next to the church tower whose bells ring on the hour from 0900 to 2100; I confess I love bells) The room and public areas were immaculate with probably the most friendly and helpful management we have met (anywhere). We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel Try the hotel Monday Special day trip if you want a flavour of Tuscany ,Good value and the driver is mainly silent. (joy)

The Hotel Alessandra is a wonderful family-owned hotel....although it feels more like a B&B....welcoming and cozy. Our room was very clean with a private bathroom....which was perfect. We had a view of a courtyard and beautiful Florentine buildings and rooftops. We kept our windows open often so that we could enjoy the sounds of Florence....horse & carriages trotting by, people's laughter, church bells ringing. It was ideal!

The staff couldn't have been more accommodating! We were welcomed by Andrea M whom we fell in love with immediately!! He is very charming, speaks excellent English and made several 'on the mark' suggestions for places to eat and visit. Andrea G is a perfect host. He takes pride in his establishment and made us feel like we belonged. He made several tour arrangements for us without blinking an eye. The hotel offers a 'Monday Special' tour which takes you to several cities throughout Tuscany with a vineyard stop along the way....this shouldn't be missed!

Hotel Alessandra is in a perfect location. A block away in one direction is the Arno River and the Ponte Vecchio. A few blocks away in the other direction is the Duomo. There are many shops, osterias, restaurants, markets, museums and other things to do within a short walking distance.

As mentioned in other reviews, there are a lot of steps before you get to the hotel reception desk....but only about 20 steps that you would have to climb in order to get to a small elevator which will carry you up. No problem. (Although, my daughter and I climbed all of the steps to work off our daily wine and gelatos!)

It goes without saying that if I ever have the opportunity to go to Florence again, I will definitely be staying at the Hotel Alessandra! I'd recommend it to anyone.

Located 1 block from the Uffizi and close to several family-run restaurants, this historic hotel was great. Our LARGE room with a bell tower outside the window was a nice touch. The building is so old that you have to climb the first floor to get to the elevator. There are 2 keys; one for the room, one for electricity. Take the latter one out and the lights go off. The bathroom was a little weird, down a Being John Malkovich hallway and a few steps. It wasn't the cleanest and they didn't change the sheets after one day. If you are immune to feelings of ghosts and such, you're golden. If you are weird about that, then you probably shouldn't stay here. They are picky about the fridge so be careful what you take -- it's expensive and they'll charge you every dime for it. The internet is SLOW and only one station makes for uncomfortably annoying sighing and staring behind you from other tourists. Average.

Our building is old, but ghosts - we have been here quite a long time and we have yet to see any! We love how close the bell tower and the Uffizi is too and we are happy to hear that you enjoyed it as well. Hopefully you will come back and see us again, with our new super fast internet router!

Huge room with the most beautiful view overlooking the water plus a yummy breakfast. The hotel was perfect, the location was perfect, and the price was perfect. Stay here. I can't remember my room number but just ask for the room with the big windows and the view facing the water. Come sunset pick up a bottle of wine, some cheese and bread, and grab a seat on the bridge a block away to see the most magnificent sunset. I'd also recommend renting a motor scooter (two people can share one) to drive out to the Tuscan countryside and Sienna. There's only one road so the trip is easy and the views are breathtaking. Florence is a beautiful city...Enjoy.

Our family run hotel is right in the heart of Florence old town - near to the Uffizi Gallery and Ponte Vecchio. Without doubt, Hotel Alessandra is one of the most centrally located hotels in Florence. In this privileged position, Hotel Alessandra offers a home away from home, with our friendly team and extensive knowledge of the local area. The hotel entrance is situated on the second floor of the building. You can reach the reception floor using the lift, small but working fine (in the 1400s buildings hadn't been designed with this in mind!) But please note that there are around 30 steps from the entrance on the street level to the departure of the lift. We very much look forward to seeing you! Andrea and Anna ... more   less
