Our second stop on our 12 night cruise took us to Florence and Pisa. We hired a share a shore excursion guide and as the eight of us got off the ship, Micheal, our guide, was waiting for us. He was very personable, polite and wanted to please. His mother was from Brooklyn and he was raised as having english as a second language and he spoke it fluently.
Our tour hit all the must see spots, gave us a decent amount of time at each and Michael also gave us the historical facts of each stop. This tour company pretty much allows you to custom design your tour so just as long as all eight people agree, you are off and running to wherever you want to go. They also have several suggested itineries for each port. We used the pretty standard one for this port. We saw the leaning tower of Pisa. Yes, it is still leaning! You would have thought they would have been able to fix that thing by now. ;-) As we headed to Florence we were taken through some of the Tuscany countryside too. When we approached Florence we stopped at a spot that gave you a panoramic view of the city for some photos. Then we headed into the city. Michael had pre-arranged tickets to the Statue of David at the galleria dell'academia, we stopped at the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio bridge for some photos and shopping. Micheal also suggested some places for a quick lunch and where he thought were the better places for leather goods shopping.
All in all, it was a very nice day and he was a very nice guide. The van is comfortable and is able to navigate the narrow side streets where a tour bus could not. This saved us time and allowed us to see more things. I would strongly suggest you use this company. They truely care about the people they are servicing and want to do a great job for you! Prices for the tours are set based on a per person rate so you want to get a full van to make it more cost affordable.
