“Very Dated and Noisy”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2011

Tourist House Liberty is very much a 1 star affair, which is fine, as long as you realise that you are only going to get the very basics. It is well located but Florence is hardly a large town to navigate so I suspect most available accommodation would fall into this category.

The staff member who attended us when we checked in was friendly enough and made sure to let us know that the internet was only available in the lobby. Our room was dated but it was reasonably clean save for the wall at the head of the bed which had grease marks (presumably from people's hair) across it.

The bed was small (more of a king single than a double) and creaked at the slightest movement. Threadbare towels were provided for the tiny private bathroom - which was a source of endless amusement as we both had to literally straddle over the toilet to reach the shower.

If all this seems a little different from the image you imagined when looking at the professional photos then join the club. The uploaded traveller's photos give a far better indication of the place - which is a basic 1 star hotel.

My biggest issue with my stay (aside from falling off the bed whenever my partner moved) was the noise. The corridor acted as an echo chamber for every creaking door and footstep and I found myself simply not getting any sleep. As the staff leave in the evening I had no way of moving rooms or any other recourse.

Luckily, the Flowers Cafe nearby serves the best coffee I have had in Italy at a very reasonable price.

Overall I would not stay there again unless I literally had no other option.

The staff was very friendly and extremely Helpful (Jessica) went above and beyond our expectations! The place was clean and a great location (It is on a noisy street, grocery next store and Flowers Cafe for great coffee across the street). Would stay there again.. its not 5 star but if you dont want to spend alot of money on your accomodations and more on shopping and seeing the sites this place is perfect.

Room Tip: Rooms with bathrooms are pretty decent

The location is good, but the hotel is not. There´s no staff at night, so, if you have an emergency, nobody will be there for you. The corridor stinks. The air conditioner got broken many times and it was 40 degrees outside. They said they will be changing towels and sheets each three days, but they didn´t. The room was dirty, lots of dust over the furniture and a pile of old papers over the wardrobe, probably there from ages. The shower´s drain was clogged - we had to fix it.

The hotel was in the perfect spot to jump out and visit Florence. The bed was not very comfortable and since we had the room right off the lobby area, we could hear people coming in at night, but it wasn't terrible. We shared a bathroom, which wasn't awful, but it was a bit of a distance from the room, the fan didn't really work very well and the shower didn't drain easily. They did provide decent towels, soap and packets of shampoo, which was nice, even though we'd brought our own. The front desk people that we met were very accommodating. The air conditioner in the room didn't work, so we asked for a fan and got one, no issues.

Room Tip: Get a room with it's own bathroom!

The lady at the desk was very helpful in giving us directions to the main attractions in Florence and spoke english well. The room was quiet, clean and cozy: the hotel is in a very good spot, we stayed for 3 nights and we found it very convenient.

Our worst stay in Italy. As many other building in Florence, this placeand room was very old. The stairway is very narrow and no elevator for guests (just residents). The bathroom is small and I could barely take a shower because the shower box is very very small. The plastic door of the box was hard to handle and almost falling apart.
We slept our first night there and went to another hotel immediately. No breakfast. There were many other better hotels in the same street and block at the same place. Opening my side window, I saw another building where people were talking out loud and listening to loud radio. It was a hot day and I had to keep all windows open.
The room and bed is big but not very comfortable.

Our stay at THL was so good we ended up booking four additional days. The front desk folk were exceptional and accomodating. I've never had a maid service that was so completely attentive to detail. Internet was purportedly only in public areas but even though our room wasn't exactly close to the reception area we received a good wifi connection. We also found a real gem for meals in the Deluxe Cafe they treated us like family and the prices beat everwhere else to eat throughout Florence.( go left out the THL front door and ten doors down) .
