The Villa Betania was lovely - a really beautiful setting just outside the city centre. Travelling by bus to the centre was very easy and took about 10 mins I think. There were a few places to eat near by but we tended to eat in the centre and then come back to the hotel afterwards.
The gardens are very pretty and breakfast was yummy in a lovely room with terrace although not warmer enough to eat outside when we were there.
The room was smart and comfortable with lovely big windows.
Highly recommend if you are happy to be somewhere quieter outside the centre with beautiful views and gardens etc.

Real Tuscan villa at the border of town, with a free parking lot. You can walk to the center or take the bus for little money. We had an absolutely lovely room and were woken by the birds in the morning! Personnel was friendly and helpful and the price was very reasonable for the service offered.

Stayed one night in December with my boyfriend and my parents. We arrived late, but they made sure we had everything we needed and called to our favorite restuarant to let them know we were on our way. The hotel is chic and modern, but it still maintains the Tuscan architecture and influence. The rooms are extremely clean, spacious and have eveything that you need. Breakfast is a simple buffet with bread, jams, cereal, hams, cheeses etc and was very pleasant. We had a car, and this hotel is perfect for that, as Florence is a nightmare for cars. Due to the cold, we wound up cabbing it down the hill into the center-the fare was 10 euro. I imagine in better weather the walk is beautiful. This place for the price can not be beat. Thank you to the nice staff who made our (short!) stay wonderful! Ciaoxxx000!

We stayed for 2 nights at the Villa Betania and next time we'll stay for longer. We chose it primarily because of the good reviews on trip advisor, free parking and its proximity to the autrostrada and closeness to the city.
Our room was magnificent - it was huge! As was our bathroom - both overlooked the main driveway into the hotel. Breakfast was varied and provided a good selection of different breads, yoghurt, fruit etc.
Unfortunately, the laundry service was very expensive and we ended up taking our laundry to a local laundrette.
A bus service is available to take you into Florence itself - note that the bus leaves from a different street in Florence itself for the return journey.
The hotel recommended a trattoria for us to eat dinner on our last night - this proved a hidden gem and thoroughly enjoyable as well as being good value. At the hotel, you could also enjoy a glass/bottle of wine on the terrace at the hotel.

After reading the great reviews about this hotel here at tripadvisor, we booked 8 nights at the Villa Betania. We knew it would not be in the historic centre of Florence, and that we might have to walk a bit or take the bus to go to different areas in Florence, however, I don't recall anyone saying that the walk back to the hotel was uphill! Notwithstanding, if you are not a night owl or don't like to stay up late, then, you might enjoy this hotel as we did. Granted, there is a night bus, however, during the entire time we were there, we never saw the night bus. When we walked back (anywhere from 45 to 30 minutes, depending where you were), not one single night bus came by. By the way, the night bus starts before 10:00 pm. as the last regular bus to the area is aroung 9:30 pm or so. Taxis at night from Santa Maria Novella area to the hotel costs between 10-15 euros.
The hotel is located in a area with trees, away from the road. It is really quiet and a welcome rest from all the throngs of turists roaming the centre of Florence.
The breakfast is particularly good and the inside of the hotel as well as the rooms are nicely and modernly decorated with good sized rooms and courteous staff.
From the three hotels we stayed in Italy (the others being in Rome and Venice), this one was the best, the least expensive and the best value overall.
