From the first moment this was a wonderful experience. We had a garden view from a spacious, clean, comfortable and modern room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts on the terrace were very good. The hotel is well located, close to all the tourist attractions but situated in a quiet part of the city. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and the hotel surprised us with a free bottle of wine. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

When we first arrived we informed that they unfortunately couldn't give us a room with a view as requested. This was not a problem as both myself and my partner understand that these requests cannot always be accommodated. However, when we got to our room, it was extremely small with a small wi Dow covered up with an fully enclosed iron shutter. We met the cleaner who opened this for us and we looked right onto a fire exit stairwell in centre of the hotel block, no sunlight possibly could enter the room. We Informed the reception who continually told us there was nothing we could do, until eventually said they could move us for one but would cost extra. When my partner agreed he would pay, there was a sudden change and miraculously they could then move us for all five nights we were stating. We had to pay extra for every night. The reception told us the website clearly state that there are economy rooms. Never have u seen a room in a hotel that uninviting. For the money we paid to stay there, I would have expected more. Not once did we receive an apology, and I was shocked that we had to pay extra. It felt like a scam. I have also read since that others were conned in a similar fashion by this hotel.
We also booked our uffizi amd palazzi tickets through them and without informing us, we later found out they charged us booking fee of roughly 10 pound. We travel quite a lot and any other hotel we have stayed in, this is part of the service for their customers. It seems extortionate to treat your guest like this, in such an underhand way.
Furthermore, the reception staff were extremely rude and unforthcoming with any guidance / help in finding restaurants/ areas to go in centre.
Overall very disappointing, location was good, that's the only positive I can give unfortunately. It is disappointing to be treated like that when visiting a place. Unfortunately, it wasn't resolved by the end of our stay because we received no apology. needless to say, we Will not be staying here again!

Dear Alice2008dr,
I would first off like to apologize for the inconvenience you experienced. I see you stayed with us in June 2013, a very busy month in Florence. During high season it is always best to book ahead of time and choose the room category that best fits your needs. On our website, you can see our room categories are: Classic rooms, some have a view of our garden that can be booked by paying an extra charge, Superior rooms each have a balcony with a view of the rooftops and Duomo and Deluxe rooms which all have a view of our garden. For those that prefer booking a Classic room with no view during high season and rather just make a request for a free upgrade, unfortunately, during these types of hectic months we are not always able to please special requests. Our guests always have the right to ask for a possible upgrade after they have checked in and should always let our front desk team know when something has not satisfied their expectations. When complaints do occur, I guarantee you we try our best to change our guests' experience from a negative one to a positive one anyway possible. I believe that in your case this was done. We offered you a Deluxe room for the rest of your stay and you accepted to pay the difference. It's also true that at first the hotel was completely booked and we had no possible way of offering you a room change for all the nights reserved. Like all hotels we receive last minute cancellations so changes can occur almost instantly and as soon as we had a higher category room available my colleague offered you the possibility of upgrading. As for museum reservations, tickets can be booked directly at the front desk. They do cost a bit more because there is a moderate extra charge for the service offered and we always inform our clients prior to booking the tickets. Booking tickets through us does also give you the privilege of not waiting in the long lines and accessing the museum entrance immediately. I apologize once again for your disappointing stay.
Kind Regards,
Nicki Sciortino

I stayed here last year and loved my room. There was a comfortable pretty space for relaxing. I enjoyed the lovely garden, delicious breakfast, computers in the lobby, side lounge rooms and the conference room where our group used the space for an informal gathering. The attractive decor combined with excellent service prompted me
to return this year and my stay was equally as good or better. Thanks for providing excellent service for me and my fellow travelers.

My husband found this lovely hotel through this site. It is hidden down one of the streets within walking distance from the main attractions. The staff welcoming and helpful. The room clean and comfortable and the bathroom large. Breakfast self-service, plenty of choice and a beautiful outside courtyard to enjoy the morning sun. We were so pleased to stay so close to everything and will be recommmending this to friends. This made our trip to Florence and my husbands 50th birthday. Thank you!

This is a real “hotel” unlike some of the other places we stayed at in Italy, so it is hard to compare. It did not feel very personal or intimate, yet I don’t think it was attempting to be so. Very high level of service, with everyone super-fluent in English. The hotel has many amenities, including reading room, computers, pervasive free Wi-Fi, gorgeous garden/patio area (albeit with aggressive pigeons). Can’t quite get to the fifth star on this one, even though it was nice. I think it comes down to not feeling very personal. I never learned the names of the people at the front desk, nor did they learn mine.

Pros — Historic building. Large and grand rooms. Very quiet. Varied breakfast with fresh juice. High levels of service. Very near Academia (David) and San Marco (Fra Angelico and Savonarola). On the site of the garden in which Michelangelo was “discovered” by Lorenzo the Magnificent.

Cons — A bit off the path for Florence. Long walk from train station and always a bit of a trek home each evening. Not very personal.

About the names, it is really had to memorize all the guests names, but we do remember faces and attitude of the people. I've been working here for years and I can immediately recognize a guest when he/she comes back. So I hope to recognize you too at your next stop in Florence. This hotel is a lovely and comfortable place. The building preserve the traditional arquitecture of Firenze. Their rooms are enormous and incredible, with a spacious bathroom. The common areas are beautiful, the breakfast room is a big place with a magnificent terrace where the sun shines at the morning. The breakfast is very full: fruits, bread and bakery, cheese, cereals, jam and Nutella, a lot of kinds of cofee, juices, all delicious and fresh. And a special mention for the staff, all of them are hepful, very kind, always attentive to the needs of the passenger. I very pleased to recomend this great hotel sited in a splendid city.

What a great hotel! I would definitely stay here when I return to Florence. The courtyard/garden was the biggest highlight of the hotel. We had breakfast outside every morning and drinks there before dinner. Florence has very narrow streets, so a garden courtyard is a real treat. The staff were plentiful, well trained and knowledgeable. The rooms were beautiful - we had a garden view room. It was large and airy. Furnishings in the room were new and of high quality. The hallways and common rooms had beautiful antiques. We took a taxi from the train station on a warm afternoon and there were complementary popsicles in the lobby - a good first impression. They upgraded our sons room to be next to us at no charge. They had nice dinner recommendations. The breakfast was generous and had something for everyone (cereal, yogurt, toast, hard boiled eggs, meats, cheese, pastries etc). They had clever self service machines for fresh orange juice and coffee (cappuccino and espresso). The location was close enough to walk to the city attractions. WiFi was specific to different areas (first floor, second floor) and sometimes slow. A/C in our room was weaker than in the boys room, probably because our room was twice as big as theirs.

Room Tip: Garden view room was big with a sitting area and window overlooking the courtyard
