My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and overall had a good experience at this hotel. It has some lovely features and doesn't feel as bland as a lot of hotels. The room we had was a good size and had its own balcony overlooking a park. The biggest disappointment of the rooms is that there are no tea and coffee making facilities supplied and were not available when we asked at reception.
The breakfast room is downstairs in the basement and provides a fairly standard continental breakfast but no fresh fruit which was a shame.
The location is great as it's not too far from the station and close by are lots of eateries and shops that are a bit cheaper than some in the main town centre.

Room Tip: Room 104 has a balcony and overlooks the park

It's not an Italian thing this check in procedure. The welcome received in this hotel did not match the professionalism of the reception staff in Rome or Venice. Let's not try and say rudeness is a necessary requirement of the Italian check in procedures.

Excellent all round. Besides the matron at breakfast, all in all very helpful, friendly staff and clean rooms and excellent linen. Great location. Our best hotel in italy. Great breakfasts too. The other comments come from travellers unused to Italian check in procedures.

We stayed for 3 nights in August. We really enjoyed our stay in Florence and found the hotel to be an excellent base for exploring the city.

The staff were friendly and our room was cleaned on a daily basis.

We had a road facing room and traffic was not a problem, we actually slept much later than normal in the room.

Breakfast was continental style and okay, no complaints but not fabulous.

The hotel supplied free wifi.

We had no transport so cannot comment on parking. It is an easy 5 min walk to the central station.

Reception desk on arrival. "Passports! Then, there is a local hotel tax" and I'll tell you about it without making eye contact because I am more important than you. Dear, oh dear, what does it take to just make your customers feel welcome. And this wasn't the young man or the female desk clerk who dealt with us subsequently. Good hotel with great locality yet risks lost business with poor front desk attitude by one solitary individual. Too long doing the same job or just bored?
It's not that common for me to slate and I don't do it lightly but how do people learn?

Friendly staff at the reception. Short walk to the trainstation and the wonderful venues of Florence. Wifi is okay. Breakfast is quite good, but you have to ask where it is, quite strange. Malaspina really needs to pay attention to people who travel alone, because I had the smallest room ever. I could not even open my suitcase without touching other elements in the room. Very small TV. Also, when you put your own stuff in the fridge, it is gone the next day when you get back to your room... Overall a pleasant stay but could be so much better...

With the same hospitality accorded Dante at the Castello di Fosdinovo in Lunigiana, the descendants of the Marquis Malaspina have opened their Florence residence on Piazza dell’Indipendenza to offer modern hospitality with that touch and culture that makes Hotel Malaspina a truly charming hotel. The lady of the house, Benedetta Torrigiani Malaspina, has created elegant rooms with period furniture with inviting halls and parlors, where the intimate atmosphere resembling a private home is enhanced by the excellent comforts, superior among those proposed by 3 star hotels in Florence. Starting with the garage just steps from the hotel (a valet takes your car and brings it back when you want it) and reception open 24h.The TV room and lobby are very pleasant, ideal situations for relaxing or socializing over a cup of coffee or glass of Tuscan wine served by the bar reserved for guests and open from 8 in the morning until midnight. Those staying at Hotel Malaspina for business can also use a conference room which can hold up to 20 people. The pretty breakfast room offers a plentiful buffet with sweet and savory foods, typical Florentine sweets, juices and hot beverages. Guests can obtain all the information they need at the reception for visiting the city and our concierge service makes reservations for tickets to the most important museums and sights, music and theater performances, recommends and makes reservations for restaurants, guided tours and tours to the surrounding areas and transfers to and from the airport (plane and train tickets can also be purchased). ... more   less
