Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 12, 2013

This was my third stay at Il Guelfo Bianco and truth be known the only reason I went to Florence this trip. I have always found the facilities to be exceptional but the secret to the hotel's success is its staff, managed by the wonderful Antonella! Their customer service skills are indeed above average, always so helpful, never to busy to print a boarding pass, call a taxi, make a restaurant reservation or just take time to chat and make you feel welcome! This time the selections at the breakfast buffet had been upgraded and included a selection of locally grown, natural foods all of which were excellent. I cannot imagine a visit to Florence not including a stay at this wonderful hotel!

The Hotel Il Guelfo Bianco is an excellent choice for Florence. The location is great with easy access to the main train station and most all of the key sights in Florence. The room we had was very spacious - especially for Europe. Staff was very helpful both with securing reservations and with our needs while in Florence. Breakfast was very good. Highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is within easy walking distance to all the major attractions in Florence but not too close to the Duomo where all the crowds are. It is almost equi-distant between the Accademia and the Central Market. Our room was on the 3rd floor facing the street and yet we had no issues with street traffic or other noise. The entire staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the included breakfast was fresh and plentiful. We stayed here 4 nights and would not hesitate to return again.

My husband and I stayed at Il Guelfo Bianco from May 15 through May 23. This hotel has everything we look for; the location couldn't be better, the hotel was comfortable and spotlessly clean, the staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet was exceptional.

The main rooms are in the new part of the hotel and seem for the main part, generic, but once you get to the section where the hotel rooms are you know you are staying in a special place. We had a Jr. Suite facing the inner courtyard. There was enough room so that we were comfortable staying for a week. The room was nicely decorated and there was a beautiful old wooden ceiling. There were bricked arches between the bedroom and living area and between the living area and bathroom. The bathroom was renovated and large by European standards. The hallways to the rooms are decorated in a very charming manner. It's obvious that this hotel is loved and lovingly maintained.

We were able to walk to all the sites we wanted to see (and we're in our late sixties). The staff provides easy to follow directions and marks everything on a map, in case you forget. We also asked the hotel to make reservations for the Uffizi Gallery and the Academia. With reservations in hand we had almost no wait, while people who didn't do this waited at least 2 hours at the Uffizzi.

We were given coupons for a snack in the Bistro when we checked in. We expected just a little plate of antipasta. Instead, we were served 2 large plates of antipasta with wonderful meats and cheeses, a small bowl of thick legume soup (delicious!) and 2 glasses of wine. We also had lunch one day at the bistro and I wholeheartedly recommend it. The breakfast buffet showed the same attention to quality and freshness as the Bistro. Wonderful assortment of meats, cheeses, fresh yougurt and fruit and I'm still dreaming about the pastries.

To sum it up, if we go back to Florence, we wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: We had room 226, a Jr. Suite facing the inner courtyard. It was quiet and comfortable and well worth...

We spent our third visit to Florence in the hotel we have come to love, Il Guelfo Bianco. It keeps getting better and better! They have added a Bistro connected to the hotel since our last visit in 2007 which serves local, organic foods and beverages. The whole staff remains very friendly and committed to serve the guests in the most excellent way. And, it's location close to the Duomo is a big plus. It's a three-star hotel that beats any of the four-star hotels we have stayed in during our visits to Italy!

We can't say enough good things about this hotel. The property itself is charming, clean, well-located, and modern yet retains the warmth of a well-restored building. The staff is phenomenal! They are friendly, eager to please and incredibly helpful. Our room was one of the smaller ones but with a large, private veranda over the courtyard. The lovely complimentary breakfast was one of the highlights of our stay, and having a bistro/bar on the premises is a nice bonus. There are great public areas around every corner. We will be back!

I spent about three weeks searching online and reading hotel reviews in trying to find a hotel in Florence. In the end, I found this hotel on Nozio rated as #1 in Florence and was a little nervous about the low rating on Trip Advisor. This hotel was perfect for us and we would highly recommend it to anyone, except those who like having the big touristy hotel feel, this is not it. The location could not be better, it was perfect for walking around and then being able to come back for a break or changes or even to drop off packages. The food is outstanding, I can't believe that some rate the breakfast as poor because this was a delicious, varied, home cooked, home grown buffet. Although the bathroom was small, we had the best shower from our whole Italy trip. If you are very heavy, the shower stall will probably be tight but for an average build it is perfect. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed was hard but comfortable (Every hotel that we stayed at in Italy had a hard bed so this is the standard. I slept like a baby) The room was small but large enough for the two of us, had plenty of hanging and drawer space, a whole wall of windows and the decor was charming. We had room 115 which is on the first floor (not ground floor) and we had specifically requested to be in a room that did not face the street. We did not have any noise from adjoining rooms and the hotel was very quiet with a lovely clientele that included some families but mostly couples as far as we could see. The staff was very friendly and very helpful in giving recommendations and helping us to find our way around. Overall, after my extensive research I believe this to be the nicest, cleanest hotel in an excellent location for the price. It is a 3 star because unlike the TA rating, hotel ratings require having certain facilities in order to qualify for 4 or 5 stars. This hotel does not have those facilities but if you are looking for a very nice, small hotel with beautiful decor and top quality touches including premier service level then in my opinion this is the find in Florence. We arrived by car and found it to be quick and easy to get in and out of, parking was extra. The bus and train stations are about 6 blocks away. If you value quality over quantity and attention to detail this is a great choice. If you read my other reviews you will realize that I have very high expectations.

Room Tip: We had room 115 which is away from the street. The hotel is only 2 blocks from the main tourist att...

Dear Civility,
thanks VERY MUCH for your lovely review! We are so happy you had a great stay with us. I just need to point out something about TA rating which is could helpful even for other customers.
It' snot Tripadvisor who decide the hotel rating fo rthe stars. We have three stars not because this is the rating TA decided to give us because it's the provincial office who decides to assign the stars for an hotel based on the featured of the hotel. The customers can give from 1 to 5 points when they write a review it depends if they didn't like, they liked or they loved the hotel. In fact we have a TA rating approx of 4,75 on 5. This is a very good rating for us and of course we are happy to improve it if our customers gave us many 5.
Thanks AGAIN for yoru great words and we really hope to welcome here again whenever you decided to come back in Florence.
Take care and CIAO!
