“Right on the Piazza della Repubblica.”
Reviewed October 8, 2009

We stayed there Sept. 24- 26. It's a great place simply for the location. It is right on the Piazza della Repubblica and close to everything. Piazza della Repubblica is a lively square. That being said, you can hear a lot of noise. Our room faced the Orsanmichele Church and you could see the top of the Duomo. There was AC and you could buy wireless internet for the room. Every site worth seeing is within walking distance to the hotel. The room was big and cozy, but don't expect a large bath tub or shower. The bathroom was small, but you're not in Italy to spend all your time on the toilet.

It is a simple small hotel with a great location, good service, nice breakfast and clean. Once you get over the fact that you are on the fourth floor of an office type building, you will find it quite quaint.

The location simply is excellent. The room was very large and the bathroom was functional. We enjoyed our stay here.

I do think this hotel has been a bit hard done by in some of the reviews.

Firstly, to all those who have complained about the noise. It is in the middle of a city overlooking a large piazza ! what did you expect? The noise is just the same as you would find in any city in a central location.

The bathroom is a wet bathroom and was adequate, clean

The room was nice and big , and yes we too had a view of a brick wall from the window, but we didn;t come to florence to look out of hotel rooms, we came to see the uffizi and the other wonderful sites, which this hotel is perfectly located for.

is it the best budget hotel ? no. Is it the worse ? no. Its just a perfectly adequate budget hotel.

Four women from the USA stayed at the Olimpia Hotel on the Plaza de Republic and I must say that the staff were the most offensive that we encountered in our five weeks in Europe. I asked the assistant manager if we had somehow offended him as he was extremely rude to us during our stay. He denied and said it was a language problem. Not so. Our room wouldn't lock and when we brought this to his attention he raised his voice and yelled that "It's not possible" for our door not to lock. At last he followed me to the room and amazingly the door didn't lock.
The bathroom was a disaster with the shower head coming out of the wall, soaking the bathroom with every shower. Beds were impossible. The only saving grace was its location. I would never encourage anyone to stay at this hote unless you enjoy being mistreated.

I stayed here with some friends for 2 nights in June. The
ONLY thing going for this 2 Star hotel is the fantastic
location...right on the Piazza Republica. Our room was
very musty and the old fan did not work. Thankfully, the
evenings were fairly cool, but in deep summer, it would be
a problem. The included breakfast was just so-so...with,
as the previous reviewer mentioned, terrible coffee. The
little bar below the hotel had fantastic coffee, though.
The shower was something to behold...and be sure to take
everything out of the room....towels, toilet paper etc. as
they will get soaked. The main problem was in discovering
that our door did not lock. When we talked to the manager
about this, he became very angry and did not believe us.
Upon showing him, he then became angrier and felt like
we had somehow broken the lock. He attempted to fix
the problem, but it could still be shoved open if you really
tried...this did not make us very comfortable leaving our
things in the room the last day. I love Florence and the
wonderful people, but would definitely not stay in this
particular hotel again fantastic location or not!

What a great location this Hotel has. Right in the middle of all the main places you would want to visit. It is a wonder that the owners don't upgrade. The Hotel is an Italian 3 star and definately not up to 3* UK, however, it is perfectly adequate. Our room was quite small with no outlook (a stone wall to be precise)with a very strange 'wet room' with the shower in the middle which meant everything got soaked. The air con is a bit dated, the old blower radiator style which can be quite loud but it did work okay. Breakfast was basic, cereal, rolls, cake and croissants with terrible coffee. Ask for hot water as they have a good selection of teas. We found the staff really pleasant and very helpful. If you are booking I would ask for one of the front rooms as they have lovely street views and are quite large and airy.

The location was great! This hotel is right on one of the many squares in Florence. Walking distance to EVERYTHING. There were 2 couples in our room (a quad) and it was more than enough room for 4 of us. Bathroom was a little wierd, the shower is in the middle of the bathroom. The hotel was clean and the front desk was VERY helpful! They even printed out train schedules for us. Breakfast was included. Our room overlooked the square which was fantastic. And although the square is loud at night, you can't even hear a peep with the windows closed. We wound up booking a double room at the end of our trip as well to cut down on our travel time to the airport. Again, can't say enough about the location! I would definately stay here again!
