Arrived at the hotel after a 15min walk from the train on a 37degree day, very hot and sweaty. The reception sumed up the hotel prefectly...unprofessional. The old guy on reception gave us a map and full details on buses, city etc which was nice however this was the last thing we wanted to hear about after our walk in the hot sun with heavy bags, we just wanted to get to our room. Our room had an external bathroom which was not right next to our room and opens up to a lobby area along with four other rooms. The room was very old looking which squashed bugs on the walls. No air con only a fan that went one speed....extremely slow and did nothing. The room was a hot box at night and we had to sleep with cold towels over us. We complained about the fan but nothing was done about this. Walls are very thin. Breakfast was very basic, corn flakes, coco pops, budget museli, dry pastries, bread and spreads. The staff were not freindly at all, I asked for a knife as there were none on the table and was told I would need to wait 10minutes and they were all dirty. Worst hotel I've stayed at across Europe. Look else where!!

Dear Guest,
We would like to thank you for the time you dedicated to write this comment on TripAdvisor, at the same time we are really sorry to read that you are not pleased with the quality of your stay at Hotel Ungherese.

First of all, we apologize for the explanations and attention that our clerk dedicated to you . We believe that all the information on major points of interest in Florence and how to get around the city are very useful and allow our guests to spend a pleasant stay in Florence. We regret that this has not been appreciated by you to the point of complaining about it .

However, we will continue to welcome our customers with the utmost attention , trying to offer a professional and attentive service to ensure they have the best possible stay .

The room with external private bathroom is very close to the room (about 2,5 m.) and it is offered at a very affordable price, explaining clearly that the bathroom, even though it's for the exclusive use of the room itself, is located outside the room. Choosing an economical solution and then complain about it, just doesn't seem fair.

To solve the mosquito problem that occurs during summertime, we have provided all the rooms with appropriate mosquito repellent device. It is not clear why some guests prefer to fight a personal battle with squashing mosquitoes on the walls. However, we try to remedy with a constant maintenance of the painting of the rooms.

The complaint about our breakfast was a big surprise! The breakfast offered to our guests is of a very good quality ! In many cases better than the one offered by hotels of higher category and difficult to find in hotels of the same category.
In fact, we offer a buffet breakfast with daily fresh croissants filled with cream, chocolate or jam , fresh sandwiches , fresh bread made with 5 cereals , biscuits , jams of all types , honey, hazelnut cream , various types of cereals to crunchy muesli , puffed rice and chocolate cornflakes , fruit juices, orange and ace ; fresh milk served either hot or cold , ham and cheese already sliced, yogurt of different types either whole or low-fat , butter, biscuits of different types , soft cheese , bread for toast both white and wholemeal and a toaster is available to guests in the breakfast room .

We also offer espresso (most types), American coffee, cappuccino , hot chocolate , barley , tea and hot milk.

It's our immense pleasure to offer this kind of breakfast and we have always had the best appreciation by our guests and we would also like to emphasize that all of this is offered at no extra charge.

Regarding the scarcity of the knives during breakfast we proceeded immediately to supply new .
I assure you that we provide periodically to replace the allotment of the buffet with new pieces of cutlery, glasses etc. . We have noticed a strange phenomenon: the allocations of the buffet and the bar strangely tend to decrease. . . . . who knows maybe there are ghosts . . . . .

Subsequent to your stay we proceeded to re-install the air conditioner in room no . 6, which had broken down . We apologize for this inconvenience, the particular time of the year, did not allow us an earlier intervention

Wishing to welcome you again in our hotel we send our best regards .

The rates are fine and the hotel is not bad but I am giving a bad review due to the fact that our room had no telephone, the bedding was awful and also because of the outside bathroom. The hotel was kind of noisy early in the morning due to some less respectful guests. On the bright side, breakfast was alright for the price and the staff helpful. The hotel is located in a residential are which is very quiet but sadly for that matter there are no restaurants in the vicinity.

Stopping over in florence on a business trip I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. An attractive single room, well appointed and with a great private terrace I was able to work on. Overall the room and was clean and well maintained. I will agree with other reviewers that breakfast was no frills, but adequate. The hotel is located in quiet area with excellent bus links to city centre and main train station. Well priced and overall I was happy with my stay.

We had to travel to Florence for a family funeral. Our main concern was to be close to where we needed to be. Friends had stayed here in the past and said it was fine. It was just that, fine. No frills, excellent location, clean, within walking distance to our relatives, the church, the bus line and some very quaint neighborhood cafes.
My main complaint was that there is no separate shower. It is a handheld shower head in the bathroom where everything else is. Also, the room is small but we weren't in it for long so that wasn't a concern.
When we visit our relatives in Florence again, we may stay there. The price certainly was reasonable. They offer a free continental breakfast from 8 AM-10 AM.
They take VISA, but I strongly suggest you bring Euros with you (something we had no time to do) since even the bank soaks you with the exchange rate.

The hotel is styled in the manner of a mansion house, with a marble staircase, paintings/portraits on the walls and busts adorning the passageways.

Rooms:
Our room was of reasonable size and was clean and comfortable, if a little cold. They did provide an extra radiator, but there was only one space to plug it in, meaning we would have to choose between charging our electronic devices or using the radiator. Our downstairs (basement level) room looked out onto a little garden, which would've been very nice in the spring/summer.

The shower floor had a few marks where the paint seemed to have worn away and on close inspection some corners of the bathroom looked like they could do with an industrial clean.

The walls of this hotel must be very thin indeed - they could do with some soundproofing. We could hear the comings and goings of guests (and the doorbell!) and being near the breakfast service area, could hear the breakfast preparations going on.

Service:
The front desk clerk was very helpful in giving us maps, directions to and from the town centre, suggestions for restaurants and list of museums and galleries that we may like to see. We had also left our luggage at the hotel before check in while we went to the town centre as our room was not ready yet. When we got back, our luggage was already in our rooms. Well done to you for that!
However, housekeeping consisted of making up the bed - they didn't even attempt this on one of the days! We used some cutlery from the breakfast area one night and this wasn't even taken away the next day, and neither did they check that we had enough toilet paper.

Breakfast:
This consisted of croissants, bread, ham, cheese, jams and chocolate spread as well as cereals. Not a massive variety to choose from, but was fine for the cost.

Getting into town:
Buses to the town centre are quite frequent and the bus stop is just around the corner. The trip is about 10 minutes and tickets can be purchased at the parking machines.

Other information:
Parking, despite what I read in another review, DOES cost money!! It is 1 euro per hour from 8am to 8pm (except for Sundays) - on street parking, using a pay & display system. Although there are plenty of parking bays, most are taken up by residents and non-residents can only park in the blue-marked bays.

The only reason someone would stay in this hotel is because they had to park a car (dont have to pay in the area). Otherwise, I think its a rip off, considering the kind of breakfast they give (very poor, little bit of bread, cold coffees -if the machine's working). Room service was mediocre (they didnt provide toilette paper, shower gels...) So had to keep reminding them. As well, If possible, find something nearer the city (too far)

Gang of families and single friends too stayed at this hotel for a wedding recently, It was basic but clean, we did laugh about the rationing of one toilet roll per room. Having stayed in a few places this summer in Italy this was by far the best breakfast and the nicest fresh coffee. Some of the reception staff missed the customer training course as they were so grumpy it was untrue! others were happy to please! Great location but basic hotel. Would go back again.

Hotel Ungherese is located in the quiet San Gervasio residential area of Florence, right off the lower slopes of the picturesque hills of Fiesole. Part of this enchanted surrounding, the hotel is a typical palace of the early 19th century. This hotel is a good choise for business travellers and also for tourists fascinated with the unique beauty of the art and architecture of Tuscany's main city.Antique furniture and pictures enrich the interiors of this most characteristic hotel, which has preserved the name given to it by its founder, a Hungarian gentlewoman whose historical memorabilia are still displayed in the halls: the coat-of-arms of the house of Austria and Hungary, the portraits of Prince Ferenc II Rakoczi, Hungarian hero and Elisabeth of Wittelsbach, the Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary famously known as Sissi. Our hotel is only a few minutes bus or car ride away from the historical centre of Florence, and just a short distance from the Campo di Marte Railway Station and the main sports venues of the city, such as Artemio Franchi Soccer stadium and the Palazzetto dello Sport, venue of the Nelson Mandela Forums; also from Hotel Ungherese, the Saschall Tent Theatre can easily and conveniently be reached, and the same can be said for reaching the Foretezza da Basso, which is the venue of conferences, trade fairs and shows. You can suitably park your car in the immediate vicinity of Hotel Ungherese, or you can use a garage just around the corner at special rates for our guests. The staff is friendly and professional, and the hotel offers plenty of comforts to its guests, that are welcomed into a relaxing place where the familiar atmosphere is coupled with care for all details of interior decoration and furniture.
