“Great Location, A plate of dirt has more Customer Service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2013 via mobile

I haven't ever wrote a review before but i used TA to help me for my whole trip so i might as well give some back to the community, here it goes..

The location for this hotel is great, situated perfectly between the Duomo and the main train station. However, As an overall I found our stay at Astoria Florence to be an unpleasant one, for reasons ranging from poor room condition to lack of customer service.

1. Upon checking in the person at the front desk told us that breakfast was included during our stay. When we got to breakfast the next morning we found out that this actually wasn't the case and we had to fork out €25 euros for a couple croissants and some orange juice.

2. The air conditioning system in our room was not working. Being summer in Florence, Our room was stinking hot and we found it impossible to sleep. When I went down to enquire if someone could have a look at it or fix it we were greeted with a sarcastic comment in Italian amongst themselves "why don't these people just open a widow" not knowing we know Italian, (havig the window was a problem too as we did for 1 night and we were covered in Mosquito bites the next morning) overlooking the comment they told us they would have someone look at it. 20 minutes later we got a knock at the door and the same staff member with the comment handed me a small desk fan and walks away, no checking or anything.

3. If you need wifi for work or just to keep people up at home with how your trip is going, be prepared to sit inte lobby with heaps of other people as this is the only place you can connect from. As to why they don't have wifi in the room baffles me and I find it annoying waking up in the middle of the night needing to check something and having to go all the way down to the lobby to do so.

If you plan to stay at this hotel, don't expect much as of room quality or customer service, like I said before the only saving grace for this hotel is its great location

We enjoyed our stay at the Boscolo Astoria in Florence. The hotel is very conveniently located a few minutes walk from the train station and in the middle of nearly everything that you want to see in Florence. The view from the rooftop terrace, especially at night, is incredible. The room was clean and comfortable and the AC worked very well. Staff were friendly and helpful and all spoke very good English. The elevators are small which is a challenge if you have big luggage but not a big deal. The rooms and building show a bit of wear and tear around the edges but we didn't see anything major. Breakfast was adequate but the selection wasn't large...the croissants were amazing! I would stay here again.

Boscole Hotel Astoria is a hotel with character. If your looking for slick and modern this hotel is not for you. The Decor was just amazing lots of frescos on the walls and ceilings full of interesting furniture. It does have a bit of wear but this adds to the character of the hotel.
The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the station and a 5 minute walk to the Duomo. The location is excellent and very central.
We were on the 5th Floor room 503 and the views over to the Duomo were magnificent
The bathroom had a bit of wear regarding the sealant around the bath but the shower worked well and lovely toiletries were left everyday when the room was made up.
The Staff were very polite and nothing was too much trouble they went out of their way to make our 3 day stay memorable. I will be staying at this hotel again.
The Buffet breakfast which included scrambled eggs, bacon,a selection of fruit and pastries was more than adequate. We enjoyed our stay completely.

Room Tip: High floor for the views

A big disappointment for a Boscolo hotel after the beautiful Exedra Boscolo in Rome. There's no way this could maintain a 4 star rating. Needs major updating! The elevator was scary! There was a chair in our room that was so grotty, I put it out in the hall.the best part of this place was the ceiling in the breakfast room...though the breakfast was mediocre at best.Wonderful views from the rooftop.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on our recent visit to Florence. It's coveniently located within walking distance of the train station , the duomo, and the open air markets. We found the room to be spacious and the air-conditioning was very welcome! Also the breakfast is served in a lovely room with high ceiling. One thing we didn't like was the wifi was only accessible in the lobby and breakfast room -- but not in the guest rooms. But it was free -- so okay. Overall we thought this hotel was reasonably priced and in a great location for the things we wanted to see and do in Florence!

This is a lovely, quaint, old hotel. It has a bit of wear around the edges, but the decor and the service make up for that. There is a lovely roof top terrace where you can sit and have wine while you look out over the Duomo. The staff were very helpful and patient. The only downside was that the bathtub shower leaked water all over the bathroom floor and when we told the desk staff about the problem, nothing was done to rectify the situation. Still, for the price, a good place to stay.

One of our main reasons for choosing this hotel was its location: about five minute's walk from both the railway station and the Duomo. And its location didn't disappoint. Other than that however, not much going for it. It's got lot's of character in the lobby and breakfast areas and rooms are large. But lots of little quibbles for a four star: no tea/coffee in room and difficult to get in general, mediocre breakfast, wifi only worked in lobby, not a proper double bed, general lack of amenities.

Indeed, it was while living at Palazzo Gaddi that the great English author John Milton found inspiration for his masterpiece, Paradise Lost, and in these very rooms that he wrote it. The noble past of Hotel Boscolo Astoria Firenze is also reflected in its location: the church of Santa Maria Novella, abounding in great art, is right nearby (as is the convenient railway station with the same name), and a short stroll will take you directly to Florence's historic centre. An undeniable advantage that puts the most beautiful areas of the city right at your fingertips.
