First... While traveling we got a price alert online, they offered a considerable reduction in rates, so we took advantage of it.
Our first impression was...wow, we lucked out. We stayed a week but as wonderful as the staff was...you needed a send of humor to deal with what this elegant hotel has become. WiFi only works in the lobby, fortunately there are lots of sofas, chairs and tables as everyone is camped out in the lobby. There are three elegant sitting rooms opening off of the stocked bar...but no bartender. The rooms were big, for when there were no king beds...now they are tight but you do have excellent king beds. The bath was large, attractive, well stocked.... But the shower head was loose and thus drooped down aiming at the end wall. I could go on...it,s plusses, worth the price we paid...E100 with breakfast. It was clean. The staff was attentive and helpful. The location is convenient, close to sights, restaurants and shopping. The negatives are the staff is handicapped by an ownership that is not investing in repairs, maintenance and sufficient staff.

This was not our original hotel but we were moved here due to a double booking. It is very near the major attractions in the heart of downtown Florence. Comfortable bed, and the BEST breakfast that we've ever had at a hotel. The staff was very kind and helpful and made an effort to speak in English. TRY THE ORANGE JUICE IF YOU HAVE BREAKFAST HERE. Best Orange juice I've ever had in my life!!!! The room had good air conditioning and nice big curtains that kept out the light in the morning.

Cons... The bathroom was a bit awkward and the showers don't have doors or curtains, so the floor can get really wet. I guess if you don't mind this little inconvenience then it's not a big deal. The shower head was detachable so it wasn't impossible to shower there. For someone really trying to get a good nights rest it can get a bit noisy outside since you're in the middle of the city. However, if you're as tired as we were after a long day of sight seeing then you'll sleep right through it. Also not a big deal.

Overall a very good hotel and we would gladly stay here again.

This hotel was very nice and placed perfectly in quiet street near the Duomo and the San Lorenzo Market. The interiors were typically Italian with painted fresco's and high ceilings. When we arrived the safe in our room wasn't working so they upgraded us to a superior sweet, but the standard room we anticipated staying in was still of high quality.

The staff were civil but I wouldn't say super friendly. There was two outside area's, one on the ground floor with a fountain and one at the top for breakfast.

At night it was quiet and the bed was comfortable. We had full amenities and the location was brilliant. On one of the days we woke up at 08:00, got a train (5 mins from the hotel) at 08:30 and were in Rome by 10:15 in time for Brunch!

Because it was such a good stay we ended up staying in another Astoria Hotel in Vienna!

Room Tip: Always make an individual request when booking or asking on arrival.

We arrived at the Astoria Boscolo Hotel in Florence at the beginning of november, having booked a room for 4 (2 adults-two kids). The Astoria is a 4 stars hotel, it belongs to a well known group and the position is strategical, but we soon discovered that it is located in a very old building, surely with some historical appeal but really dirty and in desperate need of renewing. They gave us an indecent room, the 150. Dirty, with really old furniture, small windows overooking a courtyard of two sq m, completely in the dark with no sunlight and narrow, and above all in dangerous sanitary conditions for our health. The walls were oozing with dampness. The roof in the small and unconfortable bathroom - in particular the area around the air grid over the shower was full of mould and the heater was losing water because it was broken. There were spots of mould and humidity in other parts of the room walls. the heater was noisy and half broken. The floor carpet was dirty and damaged, everything was tired, old and half broken (TV with 3 channels). Have a look at our pics.
We asked to change the room for our children's safety, but they said there were no other rooms available. Then we told them we were about to call the police because it was unhealthy to sleep in that place, so they showed us other rooms for two persons and not for 4, all really old, smelling mouldy, with dark spots of humidity on the walls. We got really upset so they found another room in a close hotel, a suite new and very clean, with no additional charge. We wrote to the website of Boscolo, to the customer service etc but nobody has answered yet, neither for a classical 'we are sorry letter' nor for explaining the bad situation of the hotel. By the way, there are pictures to show the situation we found....our piece of advice is to avoid this place, even of the position is good and it seems to be full of fashion. And Boscolo will never have us as guest, for sure, anywhere. Beware if you have a car: the parking is 30 and more euros per day.

This was the medium hotel I stayed in Florence. Standard breakfast with rather small rooms. Good location and standard service. All they give the name of Florence. Nothing else. If you talk about the location and the antique roman areas I think this is one of the best hotel you could stay in.

Let me be fair by stating that this was once a grand palace and is by any standards VERY old. This alone makes it a fun an interesting place to stay. The location is perfect, we were able to walk everywhere. The staff at the front desk were helpful and very nice. The breakfast was wonderful.
However, 4 star hotel, no way! The staircases are dark, dingy and worn. The first room we had smelled terrible and they quickly moved us to another which was fine. Our room was spacious and basically clean but this place could really use some updating. Everything felt dark and drab. However, this hotel is reasonably priced and if it truly was a 4 star it would have cost a lot more. So, not a bad deal but don't think you will be getting anything special.

We stayed in the Astoria for 3 nights in October 2012. The positives to this hotel was that we had a nice room that over looked the Dumno, the room size was large, the bathroom was a decent size, the location was great (close to train, the market, the square etc), the free wifi was nice, and it was very clean hotel.

My only few down sides for the hotel was the wifi was kinda of spotty in the lobby but it was free so you cant complain too much, the TV in the bedroom never worked and I told the front desk but it never got fixed (not that I really wanted to watch Italian tv), and in the shower there was this funny door that didnt prevent very much water from getting on the floor. But all of these are minor issues.
I would say all in all we would recommend this hotel for anyone visting Florence, we got it on priceline for a I think around $100 a night.

Enjoy Florence it was one of our favorite cities in Italy.
