My wife and I stayed from July 12th - 15 th. and had an enjoyable stay overall. There are many plus points to this hotel, a great location only five minutes from the bus and train station and right in the heart of the town, almost all the main sites are just a short walk away. The hotel is a bit 'tired' but has bags of character and is not without charm. Some of the carpets are a bit worn and grubby but we didn't spend much time wandering the stairs and corridors! The staff were friendly and quietly efficient. The restaurant was good and the courtyard dining room with fountain and blooming wisteria provides a calm and cool setting for dinner. The breakfast room is spectacular with painted frescoes and high ceiling. Breakfast was fine if you like continental breakfasts but scrambled egg and bacon were the only hot dishes on offer. The rooftop bar has wonderful views over the Duomo. There are some fine restaurants within a few minutes stroll from the hotel, we would recommend Ciro & Sons. Our room was generally OK although the air con struggled to bring the temperature down, we were fortunate to be away from the main street so were able to open our windows at night. The walls were a bit scuffed and there was no hot water one night. Internet access is very restricted to a small spot in the reception area and was only working intermitently during our stay. If you don't mind a bit of faded grandeur and need the hotel for a base from which to explore central Florence then this hotel is fine. If you expect shiny new fittings, cold air con and a more modern hotel then this is probably not for you.

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to ask for a room change if you are not happy with your first allocation. The staff seemed very willing to help if they could.

A great location in the heart of Florence with ready access to the Duomo and all the other sights. Indeed the Dome can be seen clearly from the roof terrace/bar but if you wish to see the beautiful panorama at night do it before 11.0 pm because for some inexplicable reason they close the bar then and require you leave. The hotel itself is old and they are doing some refurbishment at the moment but the lobby and public rooms are splendid and from a bygone age. Our room was delightful, clean and beautifully furnished in period style. Our air conditioning worked perfectly and was needed at night, but some in our group were not so lucky. That said, the hotel happily moved them to an other room when the complained. All in all a super hotel which I would recommend although I think you pay a premium for the location.

Room Tip: Higher floors seem to have been redecorated/refurbished.

The hotel is between the train station and the duomo, so it is in a really nice location. The lobby is nice, and has a historic feel with its paintings and furniture. There is. rooftop bar with outstanding views of the Duomo and other landmarks that are worth a visit even if you are not staying here. They open at 7P. The rooms are air condiioned, but are just old. The bathrooms especially are in need of a remodel. This was a priceline blind bid that was won at the four star level, and I would real consider this a three star hotel. A couple of rooms have balconies with nice views, one has a terrace (505?). WiFi only in the lobby. Breakfast is a whopping 12 euro. You could do much worse, but I would not book this hotel unless it was an extrardinary rate. Do go to the bar for a cocktail before dinner.

What a great old style city centre hotel in the wonderful city of Florence with its medieval architecture and charming people!

It's difficult to understand some of the reviews of this hotel - maybe those who inhabit 'Hiltonworld' have never previously tried a hotel of such character.

From the warmth of the welcome - we arrived at midnight! - to the friendly staff our stay was a complete joy!

Shabby chic maybe but you get what you pay for and we too had the room with the view and private terrace for just a small upgrade supplement from our originally booked room.

Perfecto!

We had a great stay at the Boscolo Astoria at the end of June 2012. Initially, it was not great...our first room had no working air conditioning and the shower flooded the bathroom. They quickly moved us without any fuss to a lovely room (a bit smaller, but still great for 2 friends sharing a twin room). The beds were very comfortable and we slept very well.
Breakfast was lovely and the room was amazing. The views from the roof terrace were fabulous and the (reasonably-priced) drinks were served with complimentary snacks. The hotel was very central...about 5 mins walk to the Duomo and less than 10 mins walk to the conference centre (I was there for work...my friend was not!). Also only a couple of minutes from the station where airport buses and tour buses depart. We did not try the hotel restaurant. WIFI was freely available in the reception area which was comfortably furnished.
The concierge (several different ones) were very helpful booking Uffizi tickets and opera tickets for us.
I would go back and am pleased that I ignored some negative reviews before booking. While some areas of the hotel are looking a little tired, and there are clearly a couple of guest rooms to be avoided (the air con/shower flooding seems to be frequent issue in reviews), the building is lovely and the situation fantastic.

Room Tip: Higher floors have views of Florence. If the air con doesn't work ask to move quickly (if you need air con). Room 212 (at end of June 2012) had no working air con and a very poor seal around the shower so the water flooded out into the bedroom!
