Loved this hotel! My daughter and I spent two nights at this hotel. You can't beat the location. It is right in the middle of great shopping, near the Duomo. We had a room overlooking the street. While noisy when the window was open, we loved the energy below. Breakfast was excellent, with fresh coffee and hot milk served soon after we sat down. Our room was beautifully decorated and the beds comfortable. Our bathroom was quite large. The front desk recognized us each time we came in and handed us our key without us prompting them with our room number. My only complaint was the old-style wall hairdryer. While I understand they are common in Europe, I personally hate them. I can't wait to go back!

had not been treated so friendly in any hotel in Europe before! Trully great place with very pleasant, helpful staff. They answered our emails promptly and did everything to make us feel comfortable. Special thanks to Walter and his team! Breakfast was also very tasty, great choice, nice breakfast room. The bedroom was not very big but comfortable, bathroom clean...

We just returned after extending our stay a few more days at this very nice hotel (at a very good rate even though it was Fashion Week). The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. A full breakfast is included. As other reviews indicated, the location is perfect...only a few minutes walk from many historical sites.

we were visitng italy with my mother in law. normally my husband and i prefer to stay off the beaten path, in an old remodeled convent etc. but since she has trouble walking we had to be in downtown. the location of this hotel cannot be beat. it is smack in the middle of the duomo and piazza signora. a 30 second walk in either direction.

the rooms were nice, although the remodel seemed like it could be updated a little. breakfast was plentiful, service was courteous and helpful. overall a very pleasant experience.

Room Tip: we faced the street, itàs a busy pedestrian walk way. i love being able to look down and see the duo...

We stayed here for the first leg of our honeymoon. I actually lived around the corner from this hotel when I studied in Florence 10 years earlier, so I knew the location was excellent. it's right in the center of everything, you can't beat it. The price wasn't bad either. The room, while somewhat dated, was immaculate, spacious and had comfortable beds. We did use the mini bar, and the prices weren't crazy. The breakfast was very good, nice variety. The people working there were very helpful and very nice.
We arrived by train in Florence with very heavy luggage in tow, and took the little bus from the train station to as close to the hotel as possible. I was not aware that taxi's would be able to drive in the city center. It would have been much easier, and worth every penny. Take the taxi if you have heavy luggage, it's much easier. For our trip back to the train station, the hotel arranged for a taxi to pick us up, and we were not taken advantage of.

I would recommend this hotel in an instant.

You can't go past the location of this hotel, minutes walking distance to everything you want to see and great for shopping restaurants and cake cake and more cake. It really is central to everything.
There are a couple things that take the shine off but can't take away from the location.... but here they are just so you know...
Very difficult to get to if you are driving a car. The parking they have is quite expensive (32 euro per day) valet parking but it is expensive and oh my gosh, driving the car yourself in the center of Florence is not a good idea (GPS does not cope well with the narrow one way streets). You really don't need your car at all once you get here. We experienced some horrific road rage bc we were accidentally taken down the wrong way by the gps on a street and got abused something terrible by a taxi driver who got out of his car after blocking the st and was threatening to hit my husband through the car window.
The location is very close to the train station (about a ten min walk) and this is the best way to get into the centre of this historic area where the hotel is located.
The walls are painfully thin. We had an incredibly loud couple in the room beside us and we could here every single word of their arguing and making up (quite educational for my 10 year old in fact!) - it went on until 11pm when we had to place a call to the front desk, it really was so loud in our room we probably could have joined in from the other side of the wall.
We had a triple room on 3rd floor at the end of a corridor and right outside our room was the cleaners room where they stored all the trolleys and stuff for making up rooms. Sadly they start at 6.00am each morning with the moving around, trolleys being loaded and chatter from the staff, it made for a very early start for us each morning.
The bathrooms are very small, sitting on the toilet meant your knees hit the bidet! And there was no curtain on the shower over the bath which meant that hard as we tried, water went everywhere so we had to move all our toiletries etc out of the bathroom to shower.
Rooms are quite dark, you actually need the shutters on the windows closed because the street noise can get a bit much at night (the steps of the duomo are just down the street and they are a local hang out for young people at night, it gets a bit rowdy) but it just gives the room a dark gloomy feel.
The breakfast room is so small, we had to wait for tables two mornings and it was so squashy and uncomfortable. The breakfast was identical the three mornings we were there, it was sufficient but no variety. I'd hate to be there in peak season and try to get a seat for breaky.
The heating is very hard to manage, you have to end up opening your windows even though its so cold outside in the dead of winter because its really hard to get the heating down to a comfortable temperature.
Even though we booked two rooms together, and placed a request, the rooms were not next to each other. They were on the same floor and only two rooms away (with our noisy neighbors in between) this was an inconvenience for us because we were traveling with our children and even if they didn't have interconnecting rooms available, they should have placed us at least next to each other.
Also, for a 4 star hotel, no restaurant and no gym, bit poor. But you know this before you go so its just part of the deal.
But, if you know this and are ok with it, you really can't go past this place for location location location.

Room Tip: Upper floors if possible and not a room near the cleaning/storage area (3rd floor)

I just wanted to comment that we had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Calzaiuoli. It's location was perfect, service was always friendly and timely, and when we wanted to stay an additional night, although at first it was not possible some juggling must have happened to enable our request to be fulfilled, so we were thrilled to stay an additional evening.

The rooms were very clean, a good size and well maintained each day, with good reliable internet access. The breakfast was exceptional and the rooms for breakfast and the little breakout room were lovely. We could not be happier and hope to come again soon!! We would certainly recommend you to anyone coming.
