“Second time just as good”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

We returned to this hotel because we enjoyed it a couple of years ago. Found it to be as well appointed and comfortable as before. Surprised at how well maintained the hotel is - not tired at all. Beds extremely comfortable. Try to reserve a room overlooking courtyard - much quieter than streetside. Staff very helpful. Breakfasts great, late afternoon cocktail specials served in a very friendly manner - felt really welcome. Dinner in the restaurant was fine if you didn't feel like going out, but we all know Florence has so much more to offer. Forget the negative reviews about the walking distance to attractions - easy 25 minute stroll to Uffizi etc, and this is along the river. Also - no hills!

This hotel is simply fabulous. We had a suite with the bedroom on a mezzanine floor. It was beautifully decorated and maintained; the bathroom was gorgeous. Hospitality was second to none with helpful reception staff and the room being serviced twice a day.

Whilst the weather was inclement during our stay, the courtyard area looked inviting and would be a lovely area for a glass of proscecco on a balmy summer evening.

This Hotel is on a quiet street a very short stroll to the Arnos River. Walk along the river to Ponte Vecchio Bridge and view all the jewellry stores. Also within walking distance to Duomo and many restaurants in the area of the hotel. Lovely court yard to sit out in the evening with a glass of wine. Service at this hotel was excellent and even arranged a tour of Tuscany for us. Also, close to the train station. Would most definately return to this hotel.

We were very pleased with our stay at Montebello. Accommodations were nice and clean. Staff was helpful and assisted us with reservations and tickets to see David at Accademia. Location is great - very quiet at night and only about 5 min walk to town. Rooms were very big by city standards.

We found the entire staff warm and welcoming. Everything was perfect. If you like a peaceful oasis away from the hustle and bustle this is the hotel for you. It's location is close enough to the sites, yet far enough away to enjoy the local culture. Our suite was excellent and the service was top notch. Can't wait to return.

Dear Travelers,

I had the chance to stay at this wonderful hotel during a quick family holiday in Florence a week ago. There were four of us in all and we opted for the Family Room, two beds and bath downstairs with a king sized bed upstairs. All in all very nice! Florence can be known for expensive but OLD hotels... not so with the Montebello! Everything was in tip top shape and nicely refined. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it!

Only issue I had... and a small one at that... was the front desk. The staff seemed a bit frazzled, not always well put together (ties not straight, etc) and the desk area a little messy. Honestly, don't let it trouble you!

The hotel is snuggled around the corner on the west side of the city, about one block from the river. It's quiet but close enough to downtown that you can walk there in 15 minutes. I went for a run one early morning and it was simply heaven... you feel like you are in the city... but snuggled away from the madness.

Highly recommend!!!

Oh, and get the breakfast included... at EURO20 otherwise it is worth it :).

We arrived in Florence, tired and grouchy from long flights and missed connections. Our wonderful cab driver carried our bags to the entrance of the hotel and we were immediately taken by the lovely outdoor courtyard. When we checked in, we were greeted with kindness at the front desk and whisked up to our room. The room was perfect for our needs. A queen sized, comfortable bed with duvet, a large marble bathroom with deep soaking tub and plenty of closet space. Since we arrived later than we expected and were exhausted, we ate at the hotel dining room that first night. And we were pleasantly surprised. Generally hotel food is not the best, but our meals were delicious. We were too tired that night to go to happy hour or sit in (or outside) after dinner - but it was tempting because it was so pretty. The outdoor area was lit up with fairy lights! Okay - I admit it, I love romance and this hotel gave it to me.
Once we learned the best ways into the main, touristy parts of the city it was an easy 10-15 mintue walk to get everywhere. It really was a hotel in a wonderful location - just far enough from the craziness of noisy touristy areas. We would definitely stay here again on another trip to Florence.
