Stumbled across this little cafe after a long, hot day of sightseeing and hill-walking. We were looking for a nice local panino and a glass of chianti and boy, did we find the right place. Good choice of local cuts and cheeses with a nice range of wines to complement them. Service was excellent, relaxed and friendly with the pleasure of locals joining us; the lady serving - with light hair - was an absolute delight.
Sadly, our second visit was a completely different experience - a young girl slathered on thick cheese spread on my partner's panini, even 'tho it had not been requested in his "3 toppings". We immediately asked her if that was our panini order, and explained that my partner is allergic to cheese. There could have been no miscommunication error because my partner IS Italian and had been very specific about our order.
Her attitude changed immediately, accusing my partner of not advising her that he did not want cheese (? eh? this place is great because you CHOOSE your 3 toppings!); she stroppily threw the panini into the bin, was huffing and puffing, throwing our order together - quite literally - and made us feel uncomfortable. Both of our panini's were prepared with BARE HANDS (I've gotten really fussy about this since I had chemotherapy!) and our mid-afternoon snack and glass of wine kind of stuck in our throats because of her surly attitude. If the cafe had been empty we would not have hesitated to have walked out.
We've struggled about giving a fair rating because of the second visit's appalling experience. (We left our teenager at home to give us a break from Attitude!) ... we would definitely return once again, but not if we saw it was the short dark-haired girl on duty. Such a shame, as one member of staff's bad attitude can really put you off visiting again at a later date.
