We took the bus from near the station, got off at the Gioia stop, and walked uphill to the museum. We had booked a special tour that included the collection of Japanese armor. A very interesting collection, to put it mildly! A fantastic building with a fantastic collection.

Well worth a visit if you are in town for more than a few days.
Spectacular collection of armour and costumes in the original home of Frederick Stibbert.
Normally displays of armour are dry and boring, but this is anything but. You get a real sense of the fascination he had with bringing together one of the worlds finest collections.

The story of this museum is as wonderful as its contents -- if you love weaponry and armour, this is your place to go. Don't miss the room with the Japanese armour, which is only accessible with a guide. The best piece is a 15 foot long silk carpet with egrets and swans - amazing masterpiece

Th Stibbert is know for having one of Europe's best collections of arms and armor. It is very impressive to say the very least - even for people who are not student's of the interest. And there is more than the amazingly extensive collection of weapons, as the museum is housed in the 'founder's' home, with other extensive collections of china and paintings. BUT, the museum ahs limited open hours and to see it you need an appointed time for your tour of it. Once there you will be escorted - not guided - through the museum by a staff member. And, you will have one hour to complete your tour. It is a very frustrating experience to try to see and appreciate so much in so little time, but it is well worth it, nonetheless. Note: the museum is not in the historic center. While it can be accessed by bus, a taxi is best. The cost is about 11 Euros each way to/from the historic center. The museum staff can call a taxi for your return, as the area does not lend itself to finding a taxi off of the street. There is a small coffee shop at the end of the 'tour'.

Very interesting place with a medieval atmosphere, but it's quite far from the old city center, so if you go on foot it's quite a trip.
