If you have the time, you should visit Pitti Palace. Art work in the palace is impressive and the cost of the ticket is reasonable. I did not have a chance to visit Boboli Gardens on this visit, but for a good change of pace, the gardens would be my choice.

Made our visit while on our short break to Florence. Lovely grounds but lacked flowers. It just seems as though more effort/investment is needed here.
Our main gripe here was the staff. From buying tickets to going through ticket stations and any encounter with staff here we were met with very rude and very bad manners. The chap we had to give our ticket to upon entry to the gardens didn't look up, didn't speak, didn't offer any guidance at all. Obviously didn't like his job or didn't like the English. We walked through the nice grounds to a higher level and came across a gate that kind of led us to believe there was more to see beyond. Walked a few paces realised we had left the grounds and turned back through the gate to be met by an unpleasant woman who just scowled and ranted at us and demanded to see out tickets. We had only left the grounds less than a minute before hand so she must have watched us leave and known we were paying customers. She made it quite clear she didn't like tourists???? Maybe a job change?
To summarise, these are pleasant grounds that could be better and need staff that have the abilty to smile. We would not return.

This palace has a lot to offer - first, the wonderful Boboli gardens are inside and I think the only entrance is through the palace. Second, the two art galleries are beautiful - Gallery Palatine is situated inside the living rooms of the Medici family so you get to see both the works of art and the decoration of the rooms themselves. The gallery of modern art is even more interesting, there you can have a free guided tour of the Duchess' rooms - a closed wing of the museum where you can find amazing works of art and very authentic design of the living room of the duchess. We had a guided tour with Luigi who told us that not so many people are aware of this opportunity. Luigi was a great guide, very charismatic and incredibly knowledgeable! I must say that these tours are usually in Italian, but since we were alone the guide spoke English. And still even if the tour is in Italian, that's the only chance you have to see this rooms since they are closed to the public.

Several museums in one, you probably need a whole day for this place. A nice cafe/ bar/restaurant is useful to take a break now and again during the day. We found this less crowded than many attractions in Florence and equally if not more interesting.

The Pitti Palace is huge and took a bit more time than we expected, though it was completely worth it. The artwork and the rooms themselves were stunningly beautiful for any art lover. The works are not as well labelled (in English) as some other museums, so it's worth getting a guide in the giftshop at the beginning of your visit. You will adore the art! We also enjoyed the adjacent Boboli Gardens, though it's a healthy hike to the top.
