Not only is the museum excellent, the gardens are just a lovely. I'd bring a bottle of wine, salumi, formaggi and pane and sit outdoors for the afternoon, looking at city views.

On our last day in Florence we hustled over to the Pitti Palace dodging rain drops. The gardens are beautiful, and the wardrobe displays are much more than expected. You could easily spend an entire day and not see everything. The entrance signing, and interior directional signing is poor and you have to search as to determine where to buy your tickets. The volunteers and/or employees were not the least bit friendly.

Or not! The Pitti is beautiful and ornate. you can easily see the influence of the ancient and of Napoleon. Be prepared to hike in the gardens. They are very steep! But, even if you don't explore all of the gardens, be sure to at least go into the gardens to see the view back to the Duomo. Great photo opportunity!

The Pitti Palace is an amazing site...the gardens are especially nice but see them in the spring as the summer is too hot and it's rather dry so not at it's peak. I actually think the garden needs some work. The maintenance was not perfect and I can only imagine that the Medicis kept it completely pristine.
