If you are not yet 65 and wait, you can get a discount of 1.50 euro as a senior. Or if you want to contribute extra, go before 65 and pay the full five euro. It seems the money is needed since the church appears to not have enough money to pay to have their courtyard grass mowed.

As we we staying near the Santa Maria Novella we paid to look around it. You go through the cloisters and museum first before getting to the church. Stunning interior well worth a visit. The shop is beautiful. Bewar the toilets are a bit unpleasant thought.

I have seen it! What people do not know that this church is used in Bocaccio s Decameron as a place where 7 young girls and 3 young boys met to run away at the country from the Black death. And at the country they told stories and Decameron is actually made of those stories. It was a wish of mine to visit it and it came true. It is full of history and it has a big part in literature. So, lovers of history and literature, there you go

Compared to the other city monuments this was the calmest and therefore welcome. Not sure why but it didn't seem to attract the crowds and therefore it could be enjoyed more at leisure. The piazza in front is worth having a look at too, and there are cafes and restaurants around to sit and watch the world go by.
