This church (I would never have guessed it) is wonderful! Its not over the top with decorations and frescos it has a very simple kind of beauty. The church then leads out into a cute courtyard and a little cemetery. It is 5 entry fee but it is very much worth it! Go visit this beautiful church!

You can see SMN for historic, artistic, architectural or spiritual reasons. It satisfies on all the various accounts. The church is really a must-see in Florence and is quite different in style and content from both the Duomo and Santa Croce. Find your hotel, drop your bags and go see it.

This church is a bit out of the way for those visiting the Duomo, Uffizi etc and slightly unpromisingly situated beside the main railway station, but there is so much to see here that you need to set aside at least an hour and preferably two, especially since you pay to get in (only €3.50). It is called Novella because it was new in the 13th century – it was the first of Florence’s great Basilicas - in other words it has been around long enough to amass a huge collection of art and artefacts of various kinds. The main church is enormous and impressive but even more interesting are the numerous side chapels with many frescoes and paintings. Then when you think you’ve seen it all there are cloisters and a chapterhouse containing more treasures. At least as much worth visiting as any of Florence’s churches. Just mind your wallet – the piazza outside is notorious for pickpockets!

Just next to the train station, you must visit this old church, with lots of great art work & an old cemetery
