This hotel is beautiful and is walking distance to all the must sees in Florence. Our room was charming with a beautiful view of the garden, the staff was extremely helpful and the location was excellent.

This was so much better than any chain hotel option or those right in the middle of the high traffic touristy areas. 10 minutes by taxi to the train station, 5 minutes walking to the Duomo and 10-15 minutes walk to Uffizi and Academia.

Room Tip: Overlooking the garden!,

This hotel has a lot of old world charm, it is actually a couple of hundred years old (or more). The gardens are picture worthy and very beautiful. This hotel is charming, great breakfast, and walking distance to everything. We walked to the Domo, Sante Croce, etc. We loved our time in Florence. Great trip, great hotel.

Room Tip: There are no elevators, so if you have a hard time to climb stairs, we suggest trying to get a room...

Stayed at the Monna Lisa as part of a post Easter break booked through British Airways, picked hotel on the basis of Trip Advisor reviews.
Florence airport is for mainly internal flights so all international passengers generally arrive at Pisa, which is about 80 kms from Florence, easiest way to connect is to use the Terravision Bus Shuttle, around €6 single, but cheaper if you book online. Takes about an hour and drops you off right in the centre at the main railway station.
Monna Lisa hotel is located about a mile from the station on Via Borgo Pinti, an easy walk if you want, but you could always get a taxi. The area is just outside all the main attractions but all are easily reached by foot, more suburban Florence with a lot of students living close by.
Via Borga Pinti looks a bit shabby but do not let this deceive you, when you walk through the doors of the hotel, it is a different world. The old part of the hotel is a converted palace and the architecture lives up to its history, it is quirky, different, and a real treat. We stayed in room 27, which is large by Italian standards, nice firm double bed with lovely crisp linen. Plenty of wardrobe space, although a few more coat hangers would have helped. Good small flat screen TV, although italian TV channels are dire, CNN and BBC World were available.
Mini bar wellstocked and reasonably priced. No Wi Fi in room but available else where in the hotel.
Bathroom nicely fitted out with shower, wc,bidet, and washbasin. Good range of complimentary soaps and shower gels.
Staff on the desk were very helpful and are really good for booking meals or tickets to events, they came up with some cracking suggestions.
Breakfast is taken buffet style in a large breakfast room, and is served from 0730 to 1000hrs. Plenty of options although staff can at time seem a bit stretched and fill ups on the buffet table can take a bit of time.(but come on you are in Italy). Coffee and Tea are excellent and are served in heavy silver pots. (nice touch).
Weather when we stayed was not hot but room was still warm without the heating, in summer air conditioning is available throughout all rooms.
Old part of the hotel has no lift, so it could be a problem if you are infirm, new parts of the hotel both have lifts.
Mosquitoes can be a problem, but bug killers are available in all rooms, use them as they can be a real nuisance.
Florence as a city is compact and easily walked, an art lovers paradise with much else to see. Famed for its leather, shoes, jackets, coats, handbags are the best buys, suggest you buy from the small independent stores, as these offer the genuine goods at only slightly more than you will pay at the market. (often market goods are cheap imported goods) Jewellery is also a good buy, but can (for my taste) be a bit bling.
Food, well you are in Tuscany, if you get a bad meal you haven't really looked very hard. Some of the best meals to be had are in the local trattorias, if it is full of locals, go for it.
All in all, we had a great time, try the Monna Lisa hotel if you want something a bit out of the ordinary, do not think you will be diappointed and we both rate it highly.
To sum up in the old school report style " very good in all aspects, keep it up".

Room Tip: New parts of hotel all have lifts, old part more quirky but interesting. Room 21 (i believe this is...

I just returned from 2 nights at this hotel, accompanied by Roman husband and my brother and sister-in-law from the States. During an earlier visit to Florence we had passed by this hotel and were curious as it is located in a beautiful palazzo on a small street (Borgo Pinti) close to all of the attractions that Florence has to offer. We were not disappointed. Lovely 18th century furnishing, beautiful court garden and decent sized rooms. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast good. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the garden. We were lucky as Spring had arrived. What made this hotel special were the guests: a good violinist who practiced each day and a budding conductor of music who read his libretto in the garden and practiced his conducting moves with great passion. You know you are in a city of arts thanks to the intriguing guests. Price was reasonable for a 4 star hotel. Will definitely stay here during our next visit to Florence.

I must agree with the recent positive reviews of this hotel. How lovely to get away from the standard modern 4 & 5 star hotels and stay somewhere steeped in history.Concierge was really helpful - get him to organise the tickets to visit the Uffizi etc. to save the tedium of waiting in long queues.
Lovely, friendly small restaurants near by - try Trattoria Accadi and Trattoria Toscana for unpretentious good food.
Easy to walk everywhere and lovely to be able to sit out or in the bar when you want to relax.
Visit the indoor market in the morning (closes at 14.00) if you are a 'foodie'. if you are there soon don't miss the amazing Salvador Dali exhibition (and very quiet compared to some of the more well known attractions).

Room Tip: Try to get some idea of the rooms available from the photos on this web site. We had a really spacio...

We stayed here last July (2012) but I just never got round to writing a review! It was a 5 day trip with my partner and parents. We were staying in the rear building - across the garden from the main building.

Overall I think the Monna Lisa is really lovely. We didn't have any problem with the staff on reception. We had an incident with a lost room key and so dealt with them quite a bit. The main building is fascinating with something to look at in every single nook and cranny. The communal areas are lovely and cool and a welcome escape from the heat outside (and it was 38 degrees when we were there in July). The breakfast is served in the dining room overlooking the garden and if you're lucky you can sit at one of the terrace tables (which is a covered area - open on one side into the garden itself). This area is also the bar in the evening. A couple of times we were around the hotel at lunch time so we stopped at the nearby - excellent - deli and ate our lunch in the hotel's pretty little courtyard garden.

The hotel is in a brilliant location for walking to the main tourist attractions and restaurants/deli's etc. When we stayed at the hotel a certain famous 'curvy' cook was staying at the same time with her film crew - using it as a base for a her recent BBC Two Italian cooking series. That was a bit exciting! We figured if it was good enough for her it was good enough for us ha ha! To be honest the only reason I give it 4 and not 5 is because our room was incredibly dark. The windows are high up and small in that part of the old rear building and we felt like we needed to put the lights on all the time. Coupled with its deep dark red walls it was a bit oppressive and 'cave like'. My parents room on the other hand (decorated in a lovely yellow gold) was light and bright and cheerful. So I guess its the luck of the draw. Nothing wrong with the rooms otherwise, or bathrooms, or communal areas. All nice and clean and tidy. I know you don't spend much time in your room on the whole (when you're on hols) but our room was so dark it was a struggle to get your make up on tidy in the morning!

I'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to Florence and I'd definitely return myself.

We stayed ( 2 of us) at The Monna Lisa for 5 nights from 28th March - to - 2nd April , 2013
and thoroughy enjoyed our stay . It was our first trip to Florence and we were thrilled with our Hotel choice and would advise anyone going to Florence to look no further !

The Hotel itself is an old Building full of character and charm, beautiful old
paintings, sculptures and antiques and a beautiful breakfast room looking out onto the
lovely garden. The location is unbeatable - a few minutes walk ( literally) to the Duomo which is the center of Florence and from where you can walk in minutes to all the main Piazza's.

We stayed in Room No. 45 and it wasn't v big but perfectly fine for the two of us - furnished in typical style with Damask on walls , curtains and bedspreads.Excellent shower and jacuzzi bath.

Breakfast Buffet was lovely with Easter eggs thrown in for Easter every morning - Staff were v.
friendly and as for Vincenzo , Bar Manager and all round entertainer = A delight ! Thanks Vincenzo for the lovely evenings in the Bar - you really added to our stay !

Also a wonderful restaurant a few yards down the street opposite called " La Giustro" - buzzing every night and reviewed over the years by Cosmo, Tatler etc. with rave reviews.

I Will most definitely be going back to The Monna Lisa and Highly recommend it to all.
